Amidst the pitter patter of raindrops and the cadenced beat of the golf balls meeting the club faces, we engaged in a candid chat with Sreyash Ghose, a student in the Protouch Golf Academy, when he was about to begin his practice, right after the conclusion of the Junior Skills Competition, September(Full Shot Round) on September 15.

Sreyash, a student of Class XI from St. Xavier’s Collegiate School is usually seen in the Driving Range on the busy afternoon weekends, either occupied with training, or with practice. He talked about his likes and dislikes, and what he dreams to achieve in the future.

When did you start playing golf?

Sreyash: I started playing golf about two years ago, and since then, I come to play in the Academy.

How often do you come to the Academy?

Sreyash: I usually come on Saturdays in the evening, and on Sundays in the morning. During the weekdays, I play occasionally, usually on Wednesdays in the evening.

Do you have a sibling/friend who plays golf?

Sreyash: I have a cousin brother, who used to play golf till the last year. My brother’s friend plays golf in another academy. I am friends with her as well.

How do you balance academics and golf?

Sreyash: In the weekdays, I always keep time for my studies. I go to school, and attend coaching classes regularly during the evening. I keep myself completely free during the weekends so that I can devote my time to golf. I usually take golf classes for 30-45 minutes during weekends.

What other sport do you like?

Sreyash: Apart from golf, when I was in Class 7 or 8, I played table tennis. I had to drop tennis during the lockdown. But table tennis continues to be one of my favourite sport.

What goal do you hope to achieve?

Sreyash: I wish to travel around the world, and play in various different courses on different countries. I have heard from one of my father’s friends, who is also a golfer, that courses outside the country are beautiful. I also hope to keep practising in the Academy to get further exposure.

Who is your role model?

Sreyash: I really look up to scientists, particularly Isaac Newton. He is my favourite.

Who has been your greatest support in your golf journey?

Sreyash: In my golf journey, my father has been my greatest support, as he accompanies me during my practices. And my coach, Raju Ghosh sir, who has always been very kind, helpful and supportive in improving my game.

Sreyash’s coach, Mr. Raju Ghosh says, “Sreyash is a good, and hard working boy. In two years, he has brushed his skills up to a great extent. He will shine bright if he continues to practice more.”
