The high-profile inter-club tournament between Royal Calcutta Golf Club and Tollygunge Club, first played in 1984, was resumed last year after a short break,presented a gripping encounter, with the two teams exhibiting excellent skills and determination. The championship concluded on a 9-9 draw, which demonstrated the competitive level of the matches.
Tollygunge’s Sabyasachi Hazara and V. V Lakshminarayanan registered a solid 5-4 win over RCGC’s B. Suman Sehgal and OP Killa. Ranjit Singh and Eshaan Phadnis followed Tollygunge’s winning trend with yet another 5-4 win over Samriddh Sen and Sudeep Chitlangia.
RCGC replied with Ishaan Bajoria and Raman Chattha grinding out a close 1-0 win over Kanishk Tulsyan and Pawan Ghai. Arjun Singh and Sanjeev Mehra again kept constant RCGC pressure with a 1-0 victory over Leander Paes and Anant Bajoria.
Lav Jhingan and Joydeep Dattagupta of Tollygunge won 5-4 against CV Muralidhran and Naresh Pachisia, while PS Rawat and CP Sharma won 4-3 against Pradeep Sureka and Adit Bajoria. Rishad Chinoy and Hironmoy Chatterjee also won 5-4 for their team against Vivek Sahay and Pradeep Bhowmick.
In the women’s category, Asheera Sethi and Rita Dogra ruled with an 8-6 win against Nimisha Goenka and Neena Gupta. Another match between Oona Khanna and Deepshika Pasari of Tollygunge and Harjyoti Bindra and Mona Grewal of RCGC ended all square.
Tollygunge’s Akash Tantia and Abhijit Nag defeated RCGC’s Vivek Bajoria and Arunagata 2-1. RCGC’s Avnish Jhunjhunwala and Harsh Jhunjhunwala defeated HS Bindra and Shubhojit Nag 2-1.
RCGC’s Manvi Mehta and Suchorita Moitra dominated over Tollygunge’s Vandana Agarwal and Dr. Radha Lakshminarayan with a 6-5 win.
