The Presidents Cup, instrumented by PGA, with its unique format, is one of the most prestigious events in international golf, showcasing the competitive spirit and talent of golfers from around the globe, except from Europe, and are pitted against a team of American golfers biennially.
Though the Americans ended the first round with several victories, pulling ahead against the International Team with a five up, the International Team staged an impressive comeback, sweeping the Foursomes matches at the end of the second round, levelling the overall score with the Americans by pulling back to a five all. Naturally all eyes were set on the third round, that took place on September 28, Saturday.
In the third round of the Presidents Cup, Team USA expanded their lead to 11-7 over the International team. The day included both fourball and foursomes matches, with the Americans claiming crucial victories in both formats. Standout performances came from Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Russell Henley, who managed to secure significant wins for their team.
Although the International counterpart, led by proficient players like Adam Scott and Sungjae Im, showed flashes of strong play by battling fiercely for each point, it wasn’t enough to halt the American momentum. With the singles matches set for the final day, Team USA holds a promising four-point lead as they aim to clinch another Presidents Cup victory.
The penultimate round was a day of mixed results. The U.S. team came out on top in most of the matches, showcasing consistent play throughout the day and securing their four-point lead heading into the final day. The International team, led by Mike Weir, managed to keep the pressure on, but Jim Furyk’s American side proved slightly more resilient.
For the final day, Sunday, September 29, 12 singles matches will be played, each one crucial for deciding the fate of the Presidents Cup 2024. The golfers who will face each other off at the ultimate round are:
