The third edition of the Tolly Linde Seniors’ Open 2024 concluded on October 19, 2024. In this historic event of great repute, over 140 enthusiastic senior and super senior golfers participated and displayed skilled golfing finesse in the day long golf tournament.

The third edition of the Tolly Linde Seniors’ Open 2024 was extra special, as the Subir Ray Memorial Senior Tournament was clubbed with the former, making it even more prestigious. Late Subir Ray was an avid golfer, who played golf with passion and a reputed Tolly member, who contributed a significant part of his life for the development of golf within the Club premises.

The senior golfers were divided into the following categories based on their age for the Tolly Linde Seniors’ Open:

  1. Ladies Category 60 – 64 years (18 holes Nett)
  2. 60 – 64 years (18 holes Nett)
  3. Above 64 – 69 years (18 holes Nett)
  4. Above 70 years to 79 years (18 holes)
  5. Above 70 years to 79 years (9 holes)
  6. Above 80 years (9 holes Nett)
  7. Overall Gross (18 holes)
  8. Overall Nett (18 holes)

The scoring format followed for this event was the Individual Stableford. Prizes were also distributed in the aforementioned manner.

A few additional categories that were added under the Subir Ray Memorial Senior Tournament apart from the Ladies Category 60-64 years (18 holes Nett) and Gents (60 years and above (18 holes Nett) categories were:

  1. Overall longest putt in the putting green (Hole in one)
  2. Overall closest putt to the pin (2nd hole: 9 inches)
  3. Overall straightest drive (9th hole: On the line)

The scoring format of this tournament was Double Peoria.

The day was marked by exciting golf matches among the senior Tolly members who put up a great parade of camaraderie, resilience and expertise of shots.

Mr. Ashit Luthra secured victory from the Overall Gross 18 holes category with 30 gross points. He gave a tough competition to all the fellow participants and secured the most prestigious position of the Tolly Linde Seniors’ Open 2024. Mr. Luthra’s win was followed by the victory of Mr. Ashwani Sareen who secured 28 gross points overall to emerge the runner up from the aforementioned category.

With 40 Nett points, Mr. Ravi Prasad emerged as the winner from the Overall Nett 18 holes category. He was closely pursued by Ms. Rashmi Prasad who secured 39 Nett points and became the runner up from the same category.

Mr. Ranjan K. Sahoo became the winner of the 60-64 years 18 holes Nett category with 37 points. In hot pursuit was Mr. Joydeep Dutta who became the runner up from the same category with 36 points.

In the 65-69 years 18 holes Nett category, Mr. Deepak Tandon secured the position of the champion with 38 points while his closest competitor, Mr. Jagmohan Mehra secured the position of the runner up with 36 points.

By playing 18 holes, Mr. Biresh Paul became the winner with 38 points in the Above 70-79 years category. Mr. S.K. Menon secured the second position in the same age category with 36 points.

The senior golfers Above 70-79 years who played 9 holes Nett, had a scintillating match. The winner and the runner up, Mr. Kajal Sengupta and Mr. D.C Vajpai tied off with 21 points due to which the winner was decided on the basis of a play off. Mr. Sengupta emerged victorious with a count back of the last 6, while Mr. Vajpai secured the second position with a countback of the last 3.

Playing nine holes, Mr. Om Kaul secured 26 points and became the winner of the Above 80 years 9 holes Nett category. Mr. Kaul’s win was followed by the win of Mr. Kidwai who became the runner up from the same category with 25 points.

The Ladies 60 years and above category that played 18 holes Nett had an exciting competition as well. With 34 points, Mrs. Mamata Bhargava became the winner from the same category, followed by Mrs. Anuradha Das, who became the runner up with 30 points.

Mr. Vijay Kapoor won the award for the overall straightest drive in the 9 on the line. Mr. Sujay Guha won the award for the Overall closest putt to the pin at 2 by 9 inches. Mr. Sharad Bajoria and Mr. Raghav Lall secured the award for being the winners for the Overall longest putt in the putting green for hole in one.

Under the Subir Ray Memorial Ceremony, the late Mr. Ray’s wife, Mrs. Reboni Ray felicitated the winners and the runners up from the 5 separate categories that the tour consisted of. With a Nett score of 74.6, Mrs. Mamata Bhargava became the winner of the Ladies 60 years and above category. The participants of this category played 18 holes, and a great rivalry unfolded during the game. Mrs. Anuradha Das, with a Nett score of 76.2 became the runner up from the said category. They received the Subir Ray Memorial Trophy from the Ladies 60 years and above category.

With Nett scores of 66.6 and 68.4, Mr. Pradip Lal and Mr. Sujoy Guha conquered the positions of the winner and the runner up respectively from the Gents 60 years and above category and received the Subir Ray Memorial Award from the Gents 60 years and above 18 holes.

The evening ended with a very unique incident of significance. Special mementos were given to golfers who are 90 years and above in age. This special felicitation ceremony included the applause of senior golfers Mr. Y.P Tah (90 years 8 months) and Mr. R.S Johar (90 years 1 month) who happen to be the inspiration of budding, amateur and senior golfers alike.
