Julinka Roy Chowdhury, a student of the seventh standard in Bhavans Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir (BGKV) is an aspiring golfer, who is seen at the academy every weekend, and even in the weekdays, practicing rigorously. Though soft spoken and introverted, Julinka shared with us many of her likes and dislikes, and talked her heart out, when we approached her for a bit of a friendly chat on a Sunday afternoon.
How many years of association do you have with golf?
Julinka: It has been nine and a half years since I’m playing golf. I started when I was three and a half years old, and since then, I am playing.
How often do you come to the Academy?
Julinka: It is only on the weekends that I come to the Academy. I also come sometimes in the weekdays whenever I get any off day in the school.
Do you have any cousin or friend who also enjoys golf?
Julinka: No, neither my school friends nor my siblings or cousins play golf. I am the only one in my family to be associated with golf.

As a regular student, how do you balance your academics and golf?
Julinka: It’s just that I have a planned timetable. I manage all the studies, co-curricular activities, golf etc., within my schedule. Everyday, I assign three hours for studies, two hours for golf, one hour for fitness, and one hour for swimming. So, I try to include everything in my schedule and that is my goal now.
Apart from golf, which other sport do you enjoy playing/watching?
Julinka: Golf is my favourite. Other than that, I like playing and watching football and basketball, and also handball and swimming.
Who is your favourite footballer and your favourite football club?
Julinka: My favourite football player is of course Christiano Ronaldo and my favourite club is Real Madrid.
Any favourite player and club in Basketball?
Julinka: In basketball, Lebron James is my favourite, and Los Angeles Lakers is my favourite basketball club.
What is your favourite pastime apart from playing sport?
Apart from golf or any other sport, my favourite pastime or hobby is to draw pictures and make crafts, like origami etc. out of waste materials.
Who is your role model?
Julinka: Both my parents, my mother and my father are my role model.
Do you like reading? If yes, then what is your favourite book or genre?
Julinka: Not that much, you know. I am not a bookworm. However, I like to read some books, like fairy tales, the Geronimo Stilton, and Thea Stilton, and thriller and mystery stories. Other than these, I also like to read sports biographies, especially Tiger Woods’, and books on music at times.
What is your future goal?
Julinka: My goal is to be a good human being. That’s my first priority. I devote all my time towards goal. Golf is my everything, and becoming a good golfer is my only dream.
Who are the most supportive people in your journey as a golfer?
Julinka: my parents and my coach, Indrajit sir are the supportive pillars in my golfing career. Without them, I don’t think I would have known even a single thing about golf. My parents were the first ones to introduce me to golf and inspire me to pursue golf, and my coach, Indrajit sir is supporting me to do better in my golfing career.
