The 20th Interschool Golf Championship 2024 that commenced on October 16 at the Tollygunge Club, had its closing ceremony today, on October 17. Both the rounds of the prestigious event saw over 100 budding golfers from different schools nationwide, excited to put up their best performance and win trophies by representing their respective schools.
While the first round of the 20th Inter-School Golf Championship 2024 was conducted in a Texas Scramble format, the second and the final round was conducted in a Four Ball Better Ball format. Throughout the two rounds, the participants were divided into six different categories:
Pic 1: Ahaan Gupta and Viranca Poddar with Partha Barman, President, Tollygunge Club
Ahaan Gupta and Viranca Poddar from the La Martiniere School for Boys captured conquest from the Over 13 overall category. Although Ahaan and Viranca’s team trailed along in the first round with a score of one over par, they ended the second round with an impressive score of three under 70. This culminated into a total score of two under 138, which secured them their champion’s trophy.

Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal from the La Martiniere School for Girls clinched victory from the Over 13 girl’s category with a score of 146, maintaining with consistency their leading score after the round one. Playing a challenging second round, which they ended with a 75, Anaahat and Ishikha’s team work led them to win the winners’ trophy.

Ujaan Chakraborty and Aranyak Chakraborty from the Future Foundation School won the first position from the Under 13 overall category. Following their leading score of one over par from the first round, they trailed along to score a 75 in the second round, resulting in them scoring a total of 145.

A fierce rivalry unleashed between the strongest contenders for the winner’s position in the Under 13 girls category, between Nahida Parvin and Julinka Roy Chowdhury. The winning position was decided on the basis of two consecutive and exciting play offs. Ultimately, Nahida Parvin (83-86) clinched victory with a total score of 169.

Both Under 9 overall, and Under 9 girls categories played 9 holes on the first and the second rounds. Aayansh Prasad and Jayansh Lakhotia from La Martiniere School for Boys. At the end of the second round, Aayansh and Jayansh’s team scored a 39 and ended the tournament with a total score of 77. Meanwhile, Advika Agarwal and Aaira Khaitan from Under 9 girls category won with a total score of 95, after ending the second round’s nine holes with a 47.

Armaan Tekriwal and Prashant Agarwal from La Martiniere School for Boys scored a total of 142 at the end of the final round. Though they made a competitive start with a level par on the first round, they played two over in the second round, and secured the position of the first runner up from Over 13 overall category.

Arghya Shah and Shaurya Bhatnagar, also from La Martiniere School for Boys, scored an even par on the first day but scored a 73 in the second round, thereby securing a total of 143. They went on to become the second runner up from the Over 13 overall category.

Aarav Kapoor and Krishiv Kedia of Over 13 overall category from La Martiniere School for Boys, who had scored a one under 70 in the first round, answer leading with the second highest scores, secured the fourth position with a total score of 144. Lakshya Agarwal and Shaurya Vardhan Saraogi from Calcutta International School, who had secured the highest score of three under 70 in the first round, ended at the fifth position with a total score of 145.

Samaira Chitlangia from Modern High School International played a better second round to put up a tough chase to the team effort put by Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal, and secured the second position from the Over 13 girls’ category with a total score of 158.

Dhanvi Patel from Modern High school for Girls secured the third position from the aforementioned category with a total score of 171.

The teamwork of Krishiv Rungta and Aryaveer Agarwal from the La Martiniere for Boys remained consistent even in the final round in which they secured a total of 149 to win the second position in the Under 13 overall category.

Ayaan Mimani and Hrian Khem, also from the same school secured the third position from the aforementioned category with a total of 159.

The enthralling play off between Nahida Parvin and Julinka Roy Chowdhury resulted in the win of Julinka Roy Chowdhury of Bhavan Gangabaux Kanoria Vidyamandir from the Under 13 girls category. Julinka scored a total of 169 just like Nahida.

Vaanya Rustagi and Vaasvi Himatsingka from the Modern High School for Girls scored a 188 to secure the third position from the Under 13 girls’ category. Meanwhile, Naina Dinodiya and Ojaswini Sarkar’s partnership from the same school led them to secure the fourth position with the same score from the aforementioned category.

Yugaansh Agarwal and Aativeer Jain from RP Goenka International School scored a total of 82 after playing 9 holes, and secured the second position from the Under 9 overall category.

Yashveer Ahuja and Priyansh Tulsyan from the La Martiniere School for Boys scored a total of 84, and secured the third position from the above-mentioned category.

Anwita Sinha from the Modern High School for Girls, scored a 100 after playing 9 holes in both the rounds and secured the second position from the Under 9 girls’ category.

Ruhi Nayar from La Martiniere School for Girls scored a total of 121 and secured the third position from the aforementioned category.

While Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal’s (146) from La Martiniere School for Girls also secured the sixth position in the Over 13 overall category, Andrew Baid and Sartaj Singh Chandok (151) from the La Martiniere School for Boys won the seventh position from the aforementioned category.
In the Under 13 overall category, prizes were also given to Arkaprovo Chaudhury (163) who secured the fourth position, Julinka Roy Chowdhury (169) for a better second round and for securing the fifth position, Nahida Parvin (169) for securing the sixth position and to Siddharth Shroff and Hridit Khem (183) from the La Martiniere School for Boys for securing the seventh position.

Advika Agarwal and Aaira Khaitan (95), Anwita Sinha (100), RP Goenka’s Rihaan Fogla and Riaan Veer Sethi (107), and Future Foundation School’s Kiaan Chakraborty (117) also won prizes for securing the fourth, fifth, sixth and the seventh positions respectively from the Under 9 overall category.

Great performance was also put up by Siddhanth Singhania from Army Public School, Shillong. In the Over 13 overall category, he scored an 82 and an 89 at the end of the first and the second rounds respectively. He scored a total of 171, and went on to receive the award for the Best Outstation Team Boys category.

The pair of Shravya Mehrotra and Indala Rachna Satsangi from Timpany School, Visakhapatnam and Shaili Ganta from Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam, scored a total of 190 and 193 respectively. Shravya Mehrotra and Indala Rachna Satsangi won the award for being the Best Outstation Team Girls.
The team of Aryaman Rungta and Aagam Abhishek Doshi from Loyola School, Jamshedpur, and Arihant Joshi, representing Army Public School, Gopalpur, scored a 193 and 196 respectively from the Under 13 overall category.
Ahana Khaitan from the RP Goenka International School (216) and Arrham Jain from the La Martiniere School for Boys (156 with partner Manan Bagrecha) won awards for being the most improved players from the girls and the boys’ categories respectively.

Among the reputed guests who honoured the budding golfers with their presence during the prize distribution ceremony, were Mr. Partha Sarathi Barman, President of Tollygunge Club, Mr. H.S Bindra, Captain of Tollygunge Club, and Brigadier V. Ganapathy, CEO of Tollygunge Club, and Mr. Abhishek Kejriwal, CEO of Balaji Ads. The reputed guests not only graced the occasion with their presents but also felicitated the winners.

The event not only had a competitive atmosphere but also fostered a great camaraderie among the students of the various different schools. Since 2005, the Interschool Golf Championship has been known among budding golfers and golf enthusiasts as an occasion of correspondence. The 20th year was no exception as well. The day ended with some amazing memories that are going to be cherished by each and every junior golfer till the next year, as they wait to play the tournament.
The 20th Interschool Golf Championship was partnered by Muskaan, a pan-India initiative by the Prabha Khaitan Foundation and the Education for All Trust, aiming to promote skill development among the marginalized children and the youth of the country and make them employable. The education partner of the event was George Protouch School of Sports, which is an exclusive sports education institute, aiming to impart the best quality sports education and provide a robust network of employment in the world of sports. The water partner for the event was Bisleri, and Keventer provided juices and beverages throughout the Championship to all the participants. My Kolkata has been the digital partner of the event since 2005. The outdoor media partner for the tournament was Balaji Ads, and the tournament was organized and managed by Protouch Sports.
