Jan 26,United Arab Emirates: Alejandro del Rey won the Ras Al Khaimah Championship on Sunday. The tournament took place at Al Hamra Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates.
Del Rey finished four shots ahead of Marcus Armitage. David Puig came in third, seven shots behind Del Rey. Del Rey and Puig were teammates at Arizona State in 2020. Del Rey started strong with birdies on the first two holes. He made another birdie on the fifth hole to gain a five-shot lead. Armitage reduced the gap to three shots, but Del Rey responded with a chip-in birdie on the 11th hole. He then made a 50-foot birdie putt on the 12th hole to extend his lead again. This is Del Rey’s first win on the DP World Tour. He previously won on the Challenge Tour in 2022. Spain had three players in the top seven. Ivan Cantero tied for fifth place. “I got to a point last year where I just felt like I wasn’t having that much fun on the golf course because for me, playing for 20th, 30th place wasn’t that meaningful at that point,” he admitted after his Sunday 66, his third straight round of 66 after an opening 68. “I’m just grateful and I’m very happy that this finally came.” His Sunday score was 66, completing three rounds of 66 after an opening round of 68.
