Indian golf star Anirban Lahiri’s hopes of competing at the historic Royal Troon in this year’s Open Championship crashed after a narrow defeat in the final qualifying rounds. Lahiri, who last competed in the Open in 2018, entered the qualifiers aiming to return to the major stage.

His performance was encouraging as he advanced to the last round of qualifying, but his incredible run came to an end in a heart-stopping playoff battle for the final position. In the game of golf, the Open Championship is quite important, and the Indian golfer will be losing out on the chance to participate.

However, Lahiri’s talent and determination are undeniable. With a number of tournaments remaining on the golfing calendar for 2024, he’ll have many opportunities to showcase his skills.  Moreover, his focus will undoubtedly shift towards securing a spot in the 2025 Open Championship, where he’ll aim to make a strong return to the golfing major.
