The 5th BGA West Bengal State Championship & Mahitosh Ray Memorial Junior Open 2024 commenced on September 11, at the Tollygunge Club, where over 60 enthusiastic junior, senior and amateur golfers participated in the competition.

The first round ended with some great performances. Anshul Mishra is leading the Amateur category with an impressive one under par. He put up a great competition by scoring a birdie at 4 and 16. In between, he also managed to bag in an eagle at 13. Opening with a birdie, followed by birdies at 7 and 9, is Saquib Hussain, who is putting up an intense chase against Mishra with a par score. With three birdies at 10, 13 and 17, is Joysurjo Dey, who is contending for the third position with one over par.

With birdies at 8, 12 and 14, Ranjit Singh is leading the Mid Amateur category with one over par, followed by Sumit Kakkar who is at 84. Gaurav Ghosh is leading the Senior category with three over par at the end of the first round, having managed birdies at 8 and 15. Ghosh is being chased by Sumit Banerjee.

While Capt. Sovit Chakraborty is leading the Super Senior category, he is being chased by Subroto Kundu. Anaahat Bindra is leading the Ladies category with a score of 77, followed by Sinjini Mukherjee, at the end of the first round.

The scorching September heat could not dim the enthusiasm of the golfers, as they played along with great confidence, displaying their skills. The second and final round of the prestigious event will be held on September 12 at the Tollygunge Club. This is also a WAGR ranked tour, as a result of which the final round will be held on September 13, which will be followed by honouring the champions.

The tour is sponsored by Eastern India’s largest FMCG company, Keventers, who has provided all the players with juices and milkshakes. Additionally, it is organized by BGA and managed by Protouch Sports.
