News

The 2025 Wyndham Championship has had its fair share of excitement, with storms stopping play on Friday and a bunch of low scores changing the leaderboard. When Round 2 started again on Saturday morning and smoothly moved into Round 3, it was Cameron Young who stood out from the rest with his great play and focus.

Round 2: Storms Stop Play, but Energy Grows

On Friday afternoon, the second round was paused because of dangerous weather in Greensboro, with lightning prompting players to leave the course. At the moment play stopped, some big names—like first-round leader Joel Dahmen—were still on the course. Dahmen, who began with a 61, couldn’t keep his strong play going and ended up at even-par after 10 holes, remaining at 9-under.

Cameron Young, however, kept pushing forward until the storms hit. He was 7-under after 15 holes and reached the top of the leaderboard at 14-under-par, showcasing his skill in hitting the ball and reading the greens. Defending champion Aaron Rai was right behind him at 13-under, while Sungjae Im and Mac Meissner finished their second rounds before the delay and ended at 12-under.

Play started again early Saturday at 7:30 a.m. ET, with players completing their second rounds before moving on to Round 3 later in the day with groups teeing off from both the front and back nines.

Round 3: Young Takes the Lead with Amazing Performance

Cameron Young continued his great form into Saturday afternoon, shooting a third-round 65 to reach 20-under-par for the tournament. His total of 190 over three days set a new record for 54 holes at Sedgefield Country Club, giving him a strong five-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

Nico Echavarria from Colombia became Young’s closest competitor, firing a fantastic 64 in Round 3 to land in second place at 15-under-par. Echavarria’s consistent putting and solid iron shots helped him stand out from the rest of the players.

Three players—Aaron Rai, Chris Kirk, and Mac Meissner—are tied for third at 12-under, still in a good position if Young slips up. Amateur star Jackson Koivun shone once again, moving up to 11-under and staying with the more experienced players.

Leaderboard After Round 3

Cameron Young – 190 (-20)

Nico Echavarria – 195 (-15)

Aaron Rai, Chris Kirk, Mac Meissner – 198 (-12)

Jackson Koivun (a) – 199 (-11)

Matt Fitzpatrick, Davis Thompson – 200 (-10)

Alex Noren, Gary Woodland, Joel Dahmen, Sungjae Im – 201 (-9)

Looking Ahead: Sunday Showdown

With a five-stroke lead and a record score behind him, Cameron Young is in a situation he has never faced before on the PGA Tour. A first win is within reach—but with experienced players like Rai, Kirk, and Fitzpatrick chasing him, and Echavarria just a few birdies away, the final round is sure to bring excitement and great stories.

As the 2025 FedExCup Playoffs get closer, every swing will count not only for the championship but also for important points and special chances for next season. Everyone is now focused on Sedgefield once more, a place where winners are created and situations can shift quickly.
