Memphis, TN — The second day of the FedEx St. Jude Championship was filled with great plays and some frustrating breaks, but when everything calmed down, Tommy Fleetwood managed to take a nice lead of four shots as he heads into the weekend.
Fleetwood in Full Flow
With temperatures soaring into the 90s and the grass becoming firm, Fleetwood stayed cool and collected. He started his round strong and then really heated up, making four birdies in a row from the 13th to the 16th hole. A wayward shot on the 18th led to a bogey, but his score of 6-under-par 64 kept him far ahead of the others at –13 for the week.
For someone who is still looking for his first win on the PGA TOUR, this was a solid round.
The Closest Pursuers
Collin Morikawa played a sharp 65, bringing his score to –9, showcasing the accurate iron shots that have earned him two major championship titles.
Akshay Bhatia, who led after Round 1, managed to hold his ground after a few off-swing and also finished at –9.
Justin Rose was sitting at – 9 after 16 holes when the weather warning sounded, meaning he would have to finish his round early the next morning before Round 3 starts.
Right behind them, Kurt Kitayama and Andrew Novak are close at –8, ready to take advantage if Fleetwood makes a mistake.
Scheffler Still in the Picture
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler didn’t have an amazing day, but he kept himself in the mix with a solid score of 67, making his total –7. Since he can make birdies quickly, he remains a competitor going into the weekend.
Weather Adds Drama
The game stopped in the afternoon because of lightning nearby, forcing players and fans to find cover. While this break might have cooled some hot streaks, it also means a busy Saturday morning for those who still need to complete their rounds.
