The 1st Edition of BGA Seniors’ Open Golf Tournament was organized at the Tollygunge Club on 13 November and 14 November. The event flooded with over 125 entries out of which over 107 enthusiastic senior and super senior golfers participated and displayed skilled golfing finesse over two rounds.
The seniors and super-seniors were divided in the following categories based on their age:
• Category A (55-64 years)
• Category B (65-74 years)
• Category C (75+ years)
• Category D (Ladies)
Overall Nett prizes were allotted on the basis of individual stableford points of the best performance over each of the two rounds, as well as on the basis of total of 2 days Nett, best performance on 9 holes overall on both rounds, best team performance Nett over 2 days, and Overall Nett (Total of 2 days Nett). Award was also given for the Overall Gross category on the basis of the total of 2 days Gross points.
Mr. Gaurav Ghosh secured victory from the Overall Gross category with 72 gross stableford points. He gave a tough competition to all the fellow participants and secured the most prestigious position of the BGA Seniors’ Open.
Mr. Milan Kundu secured 80 Nett points over two rounds to emerge the winner from the Overall Nett category, playing a great game.
Category Nett prizes were given away for best performances in individual rounds as well as total of the two rounds. Mr. Jaideep Mandody posted a Nett score of 72 overall in the two days, and secured win from the Category A (55-64 years). Mr. Mandody was chased by his strictest competitor, Mr. Kanwar Narender Singh, who was placed second with 70 overall points.
In Category B (65-74 years), winner Mr. Asim Mukhopadhyay and runner up Mr. Arun Chakraborti scored a total of 72 points but the former secured the position of the winner on count back.
In Category C (75+ years), Mr. Lav Jhingan won the 2 days Nett with overall 77 points. Runner up, Commander Subimal Dutt secured the second place with overall 70 Nett points.
While Mrs. Rita Singh Dogra became the winner from Category D (Ladies) with 77 Overall Nett points, Mrs. Sunita Goenka was placed second with 70 points.
Mr. Amal Pramanik secured 36 points and won the Overall Nett prize for best performance from Category A (55-64 years) on the first round. Mr. Dipak Barma secured 38 points at the end of the first round and secured the Overall Nett prize from the Category B (65-74 years) for his performance in the first round. securing 29 points and 39 points, Mr. Sunil Thakur and Mrs. Mamta Bhargava won the Overall net prize for best performance in the first round from Category C (75+ years) and Category D (Ladies) respectively.
Mr. R.K Sahoo (34 points), Mr. Sabyasachi Hajara (38 points), Mr. Anjan Mandal (32 points), and Mrs. Rashmi Prasad (41 points) won prizes in Category A (55-64 years), Category B (65-74 years), Category C (75+ years) and Category D (Ladies) respectively for best Overall Nett performance on the second round.
The dais was star-studded with eminent people from the world of golf. Mr. Dipak Barma (Vice President, BGA), Mr. Anil Bhargava (Chairman, BGA), Mr. Partha Sarathi Barman (President, Tollygunge Club), Mr. Hitesh Gurtu (Golf Captain, BGA), Lt. General Basant Kumar Repswal and Brig. V. Ganapathy (CEO, Tollygunge Club), who not only shared their idea behind organizing the tournament, but also distributed the prizes among the winners and the runners up from all the categories.
