Vibhu Tyagi, a rising star in the golfing world, gloriously triumphed the 14th World Deaf Golf Championship, 2024, in the Junior Men’s category, that came to an end on August 29. The 14th World Deaf Golf Championship, 2024 was hosted at the RACV Royal Pines Golf Resort QLD, at Gold Coast, Australia.
The Championship commenced on August 26 with more than a hundred golfers, allotted in a total number of six categories. Four rounds of tough competition among all the competitors resulted in the victory of Margaux Brejo(Women and Junior Women), Russel Bowie(Men), James Kim(Senior Men), and Vibhu Tyagi in the Junior Men category.
Tyagi made a challenging start on the first round with a score of 82. Though he managed to card a birdie on the fourth hole, his first round was marked by arduous shots. As Tyagi trailed along to play the second round, his performance improved considerably. He ended the second round with three over par 72, scoring terrific birdies at 5, 6, 12 and 15.
After the second round, there was no going back for Tyagi. His third round earned him one over par with two successful birdie putts, at 3 and 13. Tyagi finally outshone his competitors in the Junior Men’s category and sealed his victory with two birdies at 1 and 12, leading him to complete the final round with one over par. His perseverance and strategic game plan earned him a total of 303, which is fifteen over par, thus making him the champion in his category. Tyagi also secured the fourth position in the men’s category.
Another Indian golfer, Harsh Singh secured an impressive fourth place finish by putting up a steady competition against Aiden Kelley(First Runner Up, Junior Men) and Jack Besley(Second Runner Up, Junior Men). He played a commendable first round with a score of 79. At the end of the ultimate round, he also secured the 9th position in the Men’s category.
The Director of Protouch Golf Academy, Indrajit Bhalotia, who has been Tyagi’s coach, is elated at hi triumph. He said, “I have known Vibhu for over seven years. He is an extremely dedicated and single minded person. He is technically sound and has a good shot game. Even though I have taught him in his earlier days, I cannot take any credit for his success and I am sure that he is going to make his mark in Indian golf in the coming years”.
As the champion of this prestigious tournament, Tyagi is filled with heartfelt gratitude for his coach and mentor. Besides believing that his success is a result of his coaches’ efforts and unwavering faith in him, Tyagi feels that it is his responsibility to keep making his nation proud. He is zealous, and looks forward to strengthen his skills in order to win more championships in the days to come.
