The Indian Golf Union (IGU), the apex body of golf in the country, is all set to send a 3-member team at the World Amateur Team Championship 2025, which is going to be held at the Tanah Merah Country Club (Tampines Course), Singapore, from October 8 to October 12.
This team is going to represent Indian golf at an international forum, with their focus on bagging the Eisenhower Trophy, which is named after the 34th US President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and happens to be one of the most prestigious prizes in amateur golf.
Organized by the International Golf Federation (IGF), the championship will be seeing the participation of India’s rising golfing stars, Arin Ahuja, Rakshit Dahiya, and Deepak Yadav, and will defend competition from 35 countries of the world.
Incidentally, Dahiya clinched victory in the IGU Delhi NCR Cup, held in June 2025, followed by Deepak Yadav, who finished second.
The World Amateur Team Championship (WATC) is also a tournament of great repute. Inaugurated at the Old Course in 1958, on behalf of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and R&A by the Friends of American Golf, the USA is the leader of the championship, having won most number of medals for the team tournament. While team US leads with 28 medals (16 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze), Australia and Great Britain & Ireland closely follow with a total number of 14 and 11 medals respectively.
The energy of the preparations at the golfers’ end is at its peak. Expressing confidence in the team that is going to represent the country at a tough competition against the world, Director General of the Indian Golf Union (IGU) and the Captain of the team, Major General (retired) Bibhuti Bhushan said, “Our boys have been training hard for this tournament. IGU created the national squad system last year, which has helped us achieve good results in international events. Players like Ranveer Mitroo, Harjai Milkha Singh and Krish Chawla have been consistently logging top-10 finishes outside India. At IGU, our job is to provide talented golfers the platform and the motivation to bring laurels to the country. I am confident of a good finish at WATC”.
The World Amateur Team Championship will be played in the stroke-play format, in which the total of the two lowest scores from the team will be counted as the team score for each round. All the teams will be seen playing four rounds over 72 holes, and the four-day total score will be considered as the final score of the team.
