Introduce yourself
Hello, my name is Neelarnab Ghosh, and I study in class 8 of the Future Foundation school.
When and how did you get into golf?
“I got into golf about…2-3 years ago, at that time, it seemed like all my classmates were better than me, in something or the other. So, I told my mom about that, and my mom said, Let’s get you into something nobody else does and she took me to the range here in Tolly Club, and she enrolled me in this”
Do you remember your first golf lesson?
Yes, it’s a bit vague, but I think I can recall it. When I was entering the range, I asked my mother, Where is this place?
And she said, “Just see”. And she took me to the range, and I met Papan sir there, who is my coach. He still is my coach. And he told me to try to hit some balls.
Which is the easiest golf skill, according to you?
The easiest golf skill, I think, is chipping because I find it very relieving, because you don’t have to put so much power in it as you have to in the long shots. I’m not so comfortable doing them, I didn’t know, because the roll chips are done by the longer clubs, and the ball can go really far, and I can’t control it
Describe your first time in the course.
First time on the course, I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know how it would go, but it was actually pretty good. I got, I think, a triple bogey on my first hole.
What is your proudest moment in the course?
I pitched a ball on the green really well, landed really near the hole, and I think I sank it in one putt
What is your Favourite club in the golf bag?
It would be the seven iron because, for example, the sand wedge, the pitching wedge, they are too short, and for example, the driver, the 3 wood, 6 iron, they are too long for me, but the 7 iron is… very comfortable for me, and I feel very comfortable using it.
If not golf, which sport would you like to play?
The only sport I actually play right now is golf, but I would like to play football or tennis, badminton or something like that.
What’s your hobby?
I write sometimes. I write stories, I write poems, and sometimes I like to play with my dogs when I have free time.
Tell us about your coach and your coach and your bonding with him?
So, my coach is Papan sir, and he has really helped me improve in golf, as I’ve already said. The first time, when I was hitting balls from the range, it went really badly because I was hitting with my right hand and everything. So, after that, Papan sir helped me improve, and sometimes I was, I felt very discouraged, because I couldn’t hit shots properly, sometimes for a whole day, and so I told Papan sir that its actually better that I quit golf and then he said, no its ok, it can happen sometimes, you can hit the balls. Try the next day, and the next day, I was actually hitting the balls really well.
As a golfer, where do you see yourself in the future?
In the future, I’ll not be playing golf professionally, I’ll just keep it as a hobby
