Indian women golfers showcased their prowess at the Ladies European Tour’s Lalla Meryem Cup held in Morocco, with Pranavi Urs securing a remarkable fifth-place finish and Diksha Dagar securing ninth place. Pranavi delivered an exceptional closing performance, carding a 6-under 67 to accumulate a total score of 8-under 211, marking her first career top-five finish on the LET. Meanwhile, two-time tour winner Diksha concluded with a score of 5-under 214, shooting a 72 in her final round.
The tournament witnessed a captivating finale at the Royal Golf Dar-es Salaam’s Blue Course, with England’s Bronte Law storming from behind with an impressive final round of 9-under 64, clinching victory by a three-shot margin on a day marked by low scores.
Pranavi’s journey to her remarkable finish included an electrifying start, where she notched four birdies and an eagle on the front nine, carding an astonishing 6-under 31. Despite encountering some challenges on the back nine, exchanging birdies for bogeys, she managed to maintain her momentum and secure her notable finish with a 67.
On the other hand, Diksha’s performance saw her carding three birdies and enduring two dropped shots, ultimately finishing with a 1-under 72 on the par-73 Blue Course.
Pranavi’s achievement adds to the growing presence of Indian talent on the LET, joining the ranks of Diksha Dagar and Aditi Ashok. Notably, Pranavi earned her playing rights on the LET at December’s Q School, also held in Morocco, becoming the third Indian to join the tour.
Her journey to securing LET status involved a commendable performance at the five-round qualifying event in Marrakesh, where she finished in a share of 12th place with a score of 12-under-par 351. The top 20 players and ties, totaling 22 players, earned tour status from the event.
In a separate event, Indian golfer Karandeep Kochhar showcased his talent by finishing as the best-placed Indian at the Asian Tour’s International Series Oman. However, the limelight of the event belonged to Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz, who dominated the LIV Golf-backed event with a comfortable four-shot victory over competitors Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa and Joaquin Neimann of Chile, finishing with a total score of 19-under 269.
Oosthuizen secured second place with a total score of 15-under 273, followed closely by Neimann, who finished a further shot behind on 14-under 274.
The impressive performances of Indian golfers on both the Ladies European Tour and the Asian Tour highlight the growing prominence of Indian talent on the global golfing stage.
