Anirban Lahiri has become the first Indian to join the LIV Golf Tour and will make his debut this week at the event in Boston. Lahiri could not be reached for comment on his big switch from the PGA Tour to Liv, but he is expected to be among the 48 players announced late Tuesday evening in Boston. Lahiri is the first Indian and the first Asian to join Liv Golf. Viraj Madappa qualified for the first event through an International Series event in Asia.

Almost all 48 players are expected to play in this week’s LIV Golf event.

The PGA Tour is expected to take action against them, barring them from participating in its events. Since 2015-16, Lahiri has been a member of the PGA Tour. He has yet to win on the PGA Tour, but he finished second to Smith at the Players Championships.

Though Smith is Liv’s biggest catch, the signing of Lahiri, according to Boston sources, appears to have been done with an eye on the growing Asian golf market. Liv also supports Asian Tour, from which Lahiri came and is a former Asian Tour No. 1.
