The JM Eagle LA Championship at El Caballero Country Club is underway in a blaze of glory, with Round 2 completed and the leaderboard already resembling a battle royale in the making.
Ingrid Lindblad and Ashleigh Buhai are locked at the top, both sitting at 13-under-par after two impressive rounds. Lindblad fired a red-hot 63 on Friday to leap into a tie for the lead, while Buhai’s opening 63 gave her the early advantage before she steadied herself with a 68 in Round 2. Their matching totals of 131 signal a weekend battle that’s sure to entertain.
Trailing close behind are Minjee Lee at -12, cruising on a couple of incisive rounds (67-65) to remain very much in the running. Her irons have been sharp, and if she gets hot with her putter, the leaders better keep an eye in the rearview mirror.
There’s a three-way tie at 11-under, with Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, Lauren Coughlin, and China’s Yan Liu all stringing together solid rounds to remain in striking distance. Liu opened with a scorching 63, but slowed down with a 70 on Friday, while Yamashita and Coughlin both plodded out solid rounds over both days.
Five players are closely grouped at 10-under, which should make for a crowded and volatile leaderboard heading into the weekend.
Aditi Ashok
India’s Aditi Ashok has gone about quietly placing herself in a good position at 7-under-par after the first two rounds. She started well with a 66 in Round 1 and backed it up with a 71 in Round 2. Although she’s six shots behind the leader, Aditi is known to make weekend charges—and with her composure and putting stroke, a board charge is still on the table.
With only a handful of strokes between the leaders, the weekend will bring pressure, fireworks, and most probably a photo finish. Lindblad and Buhai might be holding sway at present, but this leaderboard can turn around quickly, and the likes of Minjee Lee, Yamashita, and even Aditi Ashok are hot on their heels, poised to pounce.
