In a thrilling finish at The Chevron Championship, Japan’s Mao Saigo squeezed past a packed leaderboard to take the title at -7, following scores of 70, 68, 69, and 74. It was on the edge of one’s seat until the very end, with four others — Hyo Joo Kim (Korea), Ruoning Yin (China), Ariya Jutanugarn (Thailand), and Lindy Duncan (USA) — also coming in at -7. But Saigo’s consistency over four rounds proved to be the determining factor in her crowning glory.
Korean celebrities Jin Young Ko and Haeran Ryu, and America’s Sarah Schmelzel, all registered fine rounds at -5 but failed to bridge the gap. Manon De Roey, Carlota Ciganda, and Hye-Jin Choi also ended on level par -4, which again demonstrated just how intense and hard-fought this championship had been.
Major stars such as Nelly Korda and Minjee Lee could not keep up, settling for T14 at -2, though there were moments of brilliance.
