October commenced with a big blow for the fans and professionals of golf, as the news of the cancellation of the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational by TAKE Sports spread quickly.
The Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational, regarded as the “Indian Major” on the Tata Steel PGTI, started its journey in 2018 and would have completed seven years in the fabled “Nursery of Indian Golf”, had it not been cancelled this year.
Upon the sudden cancellation of the prestigious event that had the scope of metamorphosing into an international championship, modelled on the Asian Tour, Jeev Milkha Singh has said, “The JMS will not happen this year. The sponsor has sold its company share this year, so we will have to wait till the next year”.
The Jeev International was capable of luring reputed names of Indian golf but as its schedule was clashing with international tours in the present times, it had turned into a lacklustre occasion and had not undergone any development in the prize funds during the last six editions.
The cancellation has raised concerns among everyone, golfers and fans alike feel that despite having potentials, the reason behind Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational’s crisis is due to the lack of committed sponsorship due to which it is losing its momentum.
