The Indian government has increased the sports budget by ₹351.98 crore for the financial year 2025-26. The total allocation for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is now ₹3,794.30 crore. This is the largest sports budget in India so far. The budget has allocated ₹1,000 crore to the Khelo India programme, which helps find and develop an athlete at a grassroots level. This is ₹200 crore more than last year. National Sports Federations received increased funding from ₹340 crore to ₹400 crore.

Increase in the sports budget will increase jobs in the industry. There are likely to be many new leagues and tournaments to be initiated by the government which will require various professionals in that field of sport management. For instance, one will need to have coaches, trainers, physiotherapists, event managers, marketers, analysts, and many others.

India also aims to host the 2036 Olympic Games. This program will attract increased investment in the sports infrastructure, training facilities, and administration. The demand for skilled professionals in the sports industry will increase. This is a good time for young professionals to look at career options in the sports industry. With the increase in funding, the sports sector will have more job openings in different fields. Those who want to work in sports can explore roles in coaching, sports science, event planning, and sports marketing. Focus of the Indian government on sports would help in developing the industry, and this is not only helpful for the athlete but also many professionals in the country will find career opportunities in this field.
