Rakshit Dahiya fronts the Indian challenge at the World Amateur Team Championship 2025, which is being held at the Tanah Merah Country Club (Tampines Course), Singapore, from October 8 to October 11.
Rakshit Dahiya shot an even par score of 72 in the first round of the World Amateur Team Championship 2025, which placed him tied twenty eighth in the Individual category.
The Indian Golf Union (IGU), the apex body of golf in the country, has sent a team of three golfers, which include Deepak Yadav, Rakshit Dahiya and Arin Ahuja, under the captainship of Director General of Indian Golf Union (IGU), Major General (retired) Bibhuti Bhushan. The three-member team focuses on bagging the Eisenhower Trophy, named after the 34th US President, Dwight D. Eisenhower.
After the first round, Dahiya lies seven strokes behind Singapore golfer Hiroshi Hirahara Tai, who leads the Individual scoreboard with a score of 7-under 65.
On the other hand, Deepak Yadav shot a 1-over 73 in the Individual category, and lay tied thirty fifth. Arin Ahuja had a difficult round, and lay tied at sixty seven with a first round score of 75.
Currently, team India is placed tied eighteenth among all the 36 participating nations of the world at the prestigious international tournament.
Dahiya said, “I could have finished higher but nevertheless it is a decent start. The conditions were tough to say the least. But I managed to keep it at even-par. Tomorrow, I will focus more on avoiding as many mistakes as possible and keeping the ball on the right spot in the fairway”.
The World Amateur Team Championship (WATC), organized by the International Golf Federation (IGF) is a tournament of great repute. Inaugurated at the Old Course in 1958, on behalf of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and R&A by the Friends of American Golf, the USA is the leader of the championship, having won most number of medals for the team tournament. While team US leads with 28 medals (16 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze), Australia and Great Britain & Ireland closely follow with a total number of 14 and 11 medals respectively.
Expressing pride and confidence in the team, Director General of Indian Golf Union (IGU), Major General (retired) Bibhuti Bhushan, said, “Our boys have been training hard for this tournament. IGU created the national squad system last year, which has helped us achieve good results in international events”.
