In the third edition of The Royal Junior, Japan’s Reo Maruo emerged as the champion in the boys’ category, outlasting his rivals with a remarkable performance on the final day. Maruo, who finished as the runner-up last year, showcased his skills and determination throughout the tournament. Entering the final round as a joint leader with New Zealand’s Cooper Moore, Maruo displayed steady play on the challenging 8,007-yard layout. His strong start with an outward three-under 33 set the tone for the day, establishing a commanding lead that he maintained until the end. With a closing even-par 72, Maruo secured victory with a three-day total of three-over 219. Maruo’s win is a significant achievement and is expected to propel him to a higher position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), where he began the week in 892nd place. Following closely behind Maruo was his compatriot Amuro Yoshiyuki, who made a remarkable recovery from an opening-round 83 to finish in second place with a final-day 68. Chinese player Gu Liangliang, known for his promising talent in the region, secured third place with consistent play, finishing with a total score of 223. Shinichi Suzuki from the Philippines settled for fourth place with a total of 224. Maruo’s victory adds to his impressive record in the prestigious tournament for high school students in Japan.
