Shamit Dakhane, Sohang Har Kantor and and Aditya Tiwari secured triumph in the IGU Western India Junior Boys Golf Championship 2024 in the Junior A and A&B Boys, B boys and C Boys categories respectively.
The IGU Western India Junior Boys Golf Championship 2024 that began on October 15 in the Poona Club Golf Course ended with many budding golfers putting up the best of their golfing skills, on October 18. Performing under pressure, the junior boys were able to pull up impressive scores.
Shamit Dakhane from A Boys ended the first round with an impressive score of three under 71 by putting in multiple birdies at several holes. However, he trailed along in the second round and scored a 74.
Shamit got back to form on the third round and maintained his first day’s score of three under 71. He finished the fourth round with a two under par which culminated in a leading score of five under 284. Not only did Shamit become the champion from A Boys, he also emerged as the champion from the A&B Boys.
Sohang Har Kantor faced tough competition from his fellow competitors in the B Boys category. He started the first round scoring a 76, and on the second day, he ended with 77. The course of his performance changed from the third round onwards. Sohang scored a two over 71 in the third round, which was followed by an impressive comeback of three under 71 in the fourth round. He finished the four rounds of the tour with a total of 294 and emerged victorious from B Boys.
The competitors from C Boys played three rounds only. Aditya Tewari from C Boys started off with an impressive one over par on the first round, followed by a three under on the second round. However, he played a tough third round and scored a two over par. Aditya was able to secure a cumulative score of an even par at the end of the final round and emerged as the winner from C Boys.
Anshul Mishra chased Shamit Dakhane as his toughest competitor. Though he had a tough start with scores of 75 and 72, on the first and the second rounds respectively, Anshul got back to form from the third round onwards and maintained a consistency in performance and score even in the fourth round. Scoring two under 71 in the penultimate and the ultimate rounds, he ended the final round with one over 284 and secured the position of the runner up from both the A Boys and A&B Boys combined category.
Krish Chawla, who made a better start than Anshul with scores of two over 71 and an even par score in the first and second rounds respectively, scored a two under par on the third day. Having made a one over 71 in the fourth round, Krish secured a score of one over 284, and secured the position of the second runner up from the A Boys and A&B Boys combined category.
Varish Mohta gave a tough competition to Sohang Har Kantor. Ending the first day with a score of 76, Varish had a better second round where he scored a 75 and maintained great consistency even in the third round to score a two over 71. In the fourth round, he scored a level par and wen on to become the runner up from the B Boys with a 295.
Smyaan Gupta played consistenly in the first three rounds and scored 75 in each round. He played a better fourth round, and secured a 299 to become the second runner up from the B Boys category.
Aman Oswal started off by scoring a 78 in the first round. Scoring 75 and 74 on the second and the third rounds respectively, he secured a 227 and clinched the second position from the C Boys. Aman was chased by Vedant Paul, who made a better start with 76 in the first round. Scoring a 77 and 75 in the second and the third rounds respectively, Vedant secured the third position from C Boys with 228.
Some great golfing performances were shown by Harman Sachdeva (71-72-74-72) and Ishnidh Virdi (68-78-71-72), who secured the fourth and the fifth positions respectively from A Boys and A&B Boys, Danish Verma (73-77-78-73) and Armaan Rathore (80-80-76-76), who secured the fourth and the fifth positions respectively from B Boys, and Krishnav Gupta (80-84-90) and Heydaan Bajaj (87-80-89), who secured the fourth and the fifth positions respectively from C Boys.
