Ever wondered why even after taking a number of lessons, do you struggle to fix your swing flaws permanently.? There can be several reasons behind it but the biggest and common issue in each of us is that we are more concerned about the outcome rather than process. And this misunderstanding makes us jumping from one solution or tip to another. Because most of us, especially amateurs or club golfers are always in a hurry to make a big improvement in a very less time.
But the picture is completely opposite to it. Rather than looking for quick fix going slow in your practice can make it even quicker.
Not just in golf but in any sport or even art sticking to one thing at a time with patience is the key to drastic improvement.
This method of slow practice creates a difference between a pro and an amateur. Pros never rush to make a big change in their swing in the regular pace of their swing, in fact they break it down in different segments to have an accurate feeling of the change they make in their swing.
It’s very commonly observed in amateurs that they take expect a sudden change in their game after taking a lesson.
Before the lesson they have a perception that after the lesson their flaws will be fixed by the coach immediately and they start shooting single handicap or better score on course.
Another mistake the amateurs do is that they don’t want to see any poor result while working on a particular swing fix. They practice with a mindset that if they are working on their swing, suddenly their shots would start going perfectly on the target. They have a fear of failure as well. To make a big improvement you need to be courageous enough to accept mistakes or failures while working on your swing.
A golf swing takes nearly 1.5 sec average to complete. That means a golf swing is a very short and explosive movement. So in this short span having the sensation of the correct swing mechanic is next to impossible. Transition from one muscle memory to another muscle memory takes time. When we work on a particular swing move, first mind adapts that move and then it instruct body to move accordingly. This whole process occurs perfectly when it’s done slowly and repetitively.
