The Tollygunge Club will host the 9th Caddies Benevolent Trust (CBT) Golf Tournament on Sunday, March 8, 2026, bringing together members and guests for a day of competitive golf in support of an important cause.

The Caddies Benevolent Trust was established in 2014 by a group of nine trustees — Ramendra L. Auddy, Joydeep Datta Gupta, Hemant Malik, Sri Kumar Menon, Indrajit Mookherjee, Viresh Oberoi, T. V. Ramaswamy, Viren Sinha and Rajan Vaswani — all senior members of the Tollygunge Club. The Trust was created with the objective of building a corpus to support the healthcare needs of the club’s caddies and to provide educational assistance to the children of caddies, ball boys and tank boys associated with the club.

Over the years, the Trust has raised funds through generous contributions from golfers and the enthusiastic participation of club members — both men and women — in its annual golf tournament. These contributions enable the Trust to continue extending meaningful support to those who play such a vital role in the game of golf.

For the 2025–26 edition, the tournament will accommodate 150 participants, who will tee off on the morning of Sunday, March 8. The entry fee for Tollygunge Club members is ₹2,000, while non-members will be charged ₹3,000 to participate. Participants are also encouraged to contribute generously towards the objectives of the Trust.

Tournament Format:

This year’s tournament will be played in the Individual Stableford format, with the maximum handicap restricted to 24 for men and 30 for women.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  • 0–9 handicap – Winner and Runner-up
  • 10–18 handicap – Winner and Runner-up
  • 19 and above handicap – Winner and Runner-up
  • Ladies Category – Winner and Runner-up
  • Senior Category (75 years and above) – Winner and Runner-up (9 holes).

The Trust is also encouraging senior golfers aged 75 years and above to participate in a special 9-hole category.

Trustee’s Statement:

Speaking about the initiative, Viren Sinha, one of the trustees and a senior member of the Tollygunge Club, said:

“The Caddies Benevolent Trust works towards improving the lives of the caddies, who are an indispensable part of the game of golf. Most caddies are self-employed and have little support during difficult times such as health emergencies or unforeseen situations like the COVID pandemic, when they are unable to work and earn.

What began as a small initiative, where with limited resources we funded health camps for the caddies, has today grown into a significant effort supported by members of the Tollygunge Club through this annual golf tournament. The Trust is now working to further strengthen its corpus to support healthcare needs. We reimburse 90% of medical bills, subject to a maximum of ₹50,000 per family per year; fund education for the children of caddies by covering up to ₹20,000 towards admission fees and ₹10,000 towards tuition fees per annum; and provide financial assistance such as ₹30,000 on retirement and ₹10,000 during the wedding of a caddie’s daughter. In addition, the Trust regularly provides uniforms, shoes, raincoats and winter wear.”

This year, Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd, Goodricke and BNR Housing Ltd has come as the sponsors of the 9th Caddies Benevolent Trust (CBT) Golf Tournament 2026. Protouch is the official event manager.
