Scottie Scheffler, the best player in the world, kept his cool to win his first US PGA Championship and third major of his career. It was a very exciting scene at Quail Hollow. The 27-year-old American won the Wanamaker Trophy in addition to the Masters in 2022 and 2024. He finished five shots ahead of the next player, even though he had a scare in the middle of the round.
Scheffler started the last day with a three-stroke lead and looked like he was in charge, but Jon Rahm of Spain made a run of birdies that tied the score in the middle of the round. What looked like it would be a tough match quickly changed when Rahm stumbled badly on the last three holes, letting Scheffler easily win.
“That stretch was tough, but I kept my mind on the game,” Scheffler said after the round. “This means the world to me.”
The Americans Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English, and Davis Riley were all tied at -6 and were behind Scheffler by -11. At -5, Taylor Pendrith of Canada, Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela, and J.T. Poston were all sitting one shot further back. Matt Fitzpatrick of England and Rahm of Spain both finished with a score of -4. Other well-known players, such as Xander Schauffele (-1), Tommy Fleetwood (+2), and Rory McIlroy (+3), were not able to make strong runs.
This win makes Scheffler even more dominant at the top of men’s golf. He showed poise and power on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
