The Walker Cup 2025 teed off at the beautiful Cypress Point Golf Club, and right from the first tee, it was obvious that this competition was very important. Located along the rugged California coastline, this event, showcasing top amateur talent, is already starting to feel like a memorable tournament.
Morning Foursomes: USA Leads the Way
The day began with four pairs competing in foursomes, where two players from each team take turns hitting one ball. Team USA came out strong. Players like Michael La Sasso and Ethan Fang worked perfectly together, navigating the narrow fairways and the tricky ocean wind like they were experts.
The Americans took charge early, winning 3 out of the 4 matches in the morning. The GB&I team showed some good moments but struggled to keep up with the USA’s smooth play in the challenging conditions.
Afternoon Singles: Grit and Determination
The 8 singles matches brought even more excitement. Every hole felt like a fight as the coastal winds and the strategic layout of Cypress Point made players think carefully about their moves.
Experienced player Stewart Hagestad stayed calm and steadily took apart his opponent, while Stuart Grehan battled hard to secure an important point for GB&I. However, the day was clearly in favour of the U. S., who maintained their strong game.
By the end of the day, the score was:
USA 9 – GB&I 3
