South African golfing stars Christiaan Maas and Daniel Bennett guide South Africa to win the World Amateur Team Championship 2025, which was being held at the Tanah Merah Golf Club (Tampines Course), Singapore, from October 8 to October 11.
The three members of team South Africa all lay in the top 10 of the final individual standings. The team finished the tournament at an overall score of 29-under 547 (139-135-132-141), with Christiaan Maas (66-66-65-69) finishing on the top spot at an overall score of 22-under 266 in the Individual Men’s category. Daniel Bennett (73-69-67-72) finished tied eighth in the Individual Men’s category at an overall score of 7-under 281.
Chasing team South Africa, team Australia (141-138-138-138) finished second at an overall score of 21-under 555. While Declan O’ Donovan (70-69-68-69) led the Australian team, and finished second in the Individual Men’s category at an overall score of 12-under 276, Zakary Swanwick (73-71-70-68) finished tied eleventh in the Individual category at an overall score of 6-under 282.
The moment of win was one of pride, as, for the first time, South Arica lifted the prestigious Eisenhower Trophy, in the memory of the 34th US President, Dwight D. Eisenhower. This podium finish was also a historic one in Maas’s career as a golfer, because his individual score is also the tied second-lowest individual mark in the history of the Championship, the mark being made by French golfer Victor Perez, Australian golfer Lucas Herbert, and Argentina golfer Alejandro Tosti, in the year 2014, in which the World Amateur Team Championship, organized by the International Golf Federation (IGF), was held in Japan.

The 3-member team sent by Indian Golf Union (IGU)

The 3-member team sent to the World Amateur Team Championship (WATC) by Indian Golf Union (IGU), the apex body of golf in India, struggled throughout the four rounds of the Championship. Though, Rakshit Dahiya managed to end the first two rounds tied twenty-eighth and thirtieth consecutively in the Individual Men’s category, his resilience faltered after the third round. Deepak Yadav and Arin Ahuja too had hard times climbing on the leaderboard in the Individual Men’s category.
While Dahiya finished tied forty-six in the Individual Men’s category at an overall score of 3-over 291, Yadav and Ahuja finished tied ninety-five and 104 respectively.
Team India ultimately finished at thirty-three, at an overall score of 591.
“I’m relieved, happy. It’s nice to see that my game can travel. It’s a long flight over here, different conditions,” said Maas, holding the trophy close to him.
