In a spectacle defined by razor-thin margins, surging momentum swings, and an electrifying display of golfing excellence, Casual Gurus carved their names into Qutab Golf League history—lifting the Season 2 Championship by the narrowest possible margin: a single breath-taking point.

On a crisp December morning at the par-70 Qutab Golf Course, the Gurus clinched a 13–12 victory over formidable Icons, capping off what has unquestionably become India’s most competitive and inclusive amateur golf league. It was the kind of finish that championships are built on—where every putt trembles with significance, every pairing carries the weight of a season, and every point has the power to tilt destinies.

And on this day, destiny favoured the Gurus.

For the Casual Gurus, the championship was not just a win—it was the culmination of a resilient season defined by consistency, clutch performances, and nerves of steel. Their march to the top was powered by emphatic individual victories from Anmol Puri, Yuvrajbir Sodhi, Aaryaveer Khoda, and Naina Kapoor, each delivering 2-point wins in the pressure cooker of singles match play.

But the true clincher came from the pairing that seemed to arrive with ice in their veins: Col. Amitabh Shergill and Suchit Arora who delivered a decisive 1-point tie in doubles, sealing the Gurus’ 13-point tally and with it, the championship.

Yet Icons—Season 2’s juggernauts—were not far behind. They finished at 12 points, a testament to their own remarkable depth. Their scoreboard lit up with match-play victories from the pairing of Anmol Handa and Keshav Sharma, as well as Pawan Saluja and Gp. Capt. Sanjay Chauhan, singles wins by Kanav Chauhan, Ritwik Jain, and Vinamra Anand, each adding 2 points to the team’s charge.Never has a one-point margin felt so dramatic.

If the main championship was tight, the Plate Championship was even tighter.

Drive Squad, competing against the remaining six teams who didn’t qualify for the finals, delivered a stunning collective performance—amassing 301 Stableford points, just one point ahead of a spirited Albatross team. It was a result that reaffirmed the fiercely competitive culture of the QGL: no match is trivial, and every shot counts.

Standout performers for Drive Squad included:

• Rai Virender Singh Sodhi – 39 points
• Dhruv Kapoor & Rohit Jhawar – 35 points each
• Kapil Khanna & Retd. Col. I.S. Kohli – 31 points each
• Hridesh Rawal – 29 points

For Albatross, the margins were agonizingly slim. Led by Rajat Kumar (36), Parth Chaudhary (35), Amit Dahiya and Rahil Aggarwal (34 each), and team owner Sandeep Bhatotia (30), they finished with 300 points—a single stroke away from glory.

Behind them followed Swinging Shers (294), Ultimate Stix (282), Metro Legends (270), and Vox Spartans (234), each sharing their own stories of grit and standout individual performances.

This year’s league saw ₹23 lakhs in prize money distributed across the top four teams and the Plate Champion—one of the highest payouts for an amateur league in the country. Combined with attractive player prizes and multiple skills-based awards given each day, QGL continues to elevate amateur golf into a space of recognition, reward, and aspiration.

But beyond the glint of trophies and the weight of prize cheques, what stands out most is the mission behind the league—a mission to develop an ecosystem where every golfer, across categories, genders, ages, and backgrounds, can experience high-quality competitive golf.

 

THE ROAD TO THE FINALS: A DAY-BY-DAY DRAMA

The 2nd Edition of the Qutab Golf League unfolded across five match days, traversing three iconic venues—the Qutab Golf Course, ITC Classic Golf Resort, and Jaypee Greens. Each day told its own story, filled with momentum shifts and standout performances.

DAY 1: A Flying Start for Drive Squad, A Strong Showing by Charlie’s Angels

The league teed off at the historic Qutab Golf Course, India’s first public golf course, and immediately set the tone for the thrilling weeks ahead.

• Drive Squad took a commanding early lead, tallying 22.5 points, propelled by 2.5-point performances from Bhavya Mann, Amit Ahuja, and Dhruv Kapoor.
• The all-women’s team, Charlie’s Angels, made a remarkable statement, finishing second with 18 points, powered by Yogya Bhalla and Rashi Mishra, who both scored 2.5 points.
• Icons followed with 16 points, while defending champions Swinging Shers sat at 13.5.

From the outset, the competitive tone was unmistakable: everyone had arrived to win.

DAY 2: Angels Rise, Drive Squad Holds, Icons Surge

The second day saw the action intensify, with teams shifting gears in both groups.

Group A Highlights:

• Drive Squad extended their lead to 34 points, with another set of 2.5-point wins from Col.(Retd.) I.S. Kohli , Hridesh Rawal, Rai Virender Singh Sodhi, and Amit Ahuja.
• Icons surged to 33 points, adding 17 points on Day 2 with match-play wins from Vedant Jain, Ritwik Jain, Keshav Sharma, and Pawan Saluja.
• A crucial victory by their junior golfer Zara Anand proved instrumental.

Group B Highlights:

• Charlie’s Angels stormed into the lead with 34 points, showcasing depth and consistency.
• Casual Gurus climbed to second with 29.5 points, sparked by match wins from Dhruv Pal Singh, Suchit Arora, Aaryaveer Khoda, Arjun Verma, Anmol Puri, and Yuvrajbir Sodhi.

The league had officially entered the “anything can happen” zone.

DAY 3: Icons Seize Control, and a Star Is Born

At the Jack Nicklaus–designed ITC Classic Golf Resort, Day 3 produced some of the season’s most extraordinary performances.

Group A:

• Icons took the lead with 39 points, thanks to winning pairings including Anmol Handa & Vedant Jain and Keshav Sharma & Kanav Chauhan.
• Drive Squad, now trailing by just half a point at 38.5, remained in fierce contention.
• Ishum Eagles stole headlines with a powerful 7-point showing, climbing to 34.5 points.

Group B: The Performance of the League

Charlie’s Angels continued their dominance, but the talk of the day—and perhaps the season—was Lavanya Gupta. Delivering 11 gross birdies and signing off with a staggering 64, Lavanya produced one of the finest amateur rounds in recent memory. Her pairing, alongside strong performances from Rashi Mishra, Sonu Kalkat, Anushka Gupta, Sunita Kataria, and others, propelled the Angels to 44 points.

Casual Gurus, however, were quietly gathering steam. Their 8.5-point day brought them to 38 points, setting up a dramatic Day 4 battle.

 

DAY 4: Finals Decided by Razor-Thin Edges

The league moved to the immaculate fairways of the Greg Norman–designed Jaypee Greens Golf Resort for Day 4—the decisive stage where finalists would be locked in.

And the margins could not have been finer.

Group A: A Battle of Half-Points

• Icons confirmed their place in the finals with a commanding total of 48 points.
• Ishum Eagles scripted one of the most dramatic turnarounds of the league, scoring 9 points to finish at 43.5.
• Heartbreakingly, Drive Squad, despite a valiant effort and finishing with 43 points, missed the finals by just 0.5 points.

The difference between glory and elimination was literally a single putt.

Group B: Angels Dominate, Gurus Advance

• Charlie’s Angels finished with a record-breaking 52.5 points, the highest of either group.
• Casual Gurus secured the second finals spot with 45 points, led by clutch performances from Dhruv Pal Singh, Suchit Arora, Gurtek Sodhi, Yuvrajbir Singh, Simarjeet Singh and Kabir Kishan Advani.

Teams that missed qualification—Drive Squad, Swinging Shers, Ultimate Stix, Metro Legends, Albatross, and Vox Spartans—moved to the Plate Championship.

The tension of Day 4 set the stage perfectly for a dramatic finale.

THE SPIRIT OF QGL: Inclusivity, Innovation, and the Future of Indian Golf

The Qutab Golf League, conceptualized by Game of Life Sports (GOLS) founders Amit Kharbanda and Samant Sikka, in partnership with Digraj Golf Inc. (DGI), has swiftly evolved into one of India’s most innovative and inclusive golf formats.

The mandatory team structure—requiring:

• Two ladies
• One junior (Under 18)
• One senior or armed forces/government player

ensures representation, diversity, and empowerment. This unique inclusivity is not merely structural—it has become part of the league’s heartbeat.

From juniors delivering clutch points to women golfers delivering some of the finest performances of the season, QGL is reshaping perceptions of amateur golf in India.

The league is guided by the Apex Council featuring:

• Wg Cdr Arun Kumar Singh – Veteran administrator, ex-DG of the IGU
• Gaurav Ghei – Champion golfer and respected coach
• Avnish Dass – Specialist in handicapping systems

Their collective expertise ensures that QGL remains progressive, competitive, and championship-grade.
