The Kolkata leg of the AVT Champions Tour teed off with a competitive field of senior golfers across six age-based categories and a Ladies division, all playing in a 36-hole Strokeplay format. Day 1 delivered tightly packed scorecards, standout individual rounds, and spirited team performances across the fairways of The Tollygunge Club.
Overall
Sandeep Singh Sandhu from Category C led the field with a composed round of 72, carding 34 on the front nine and 38 on the back. Harmeet Sahney (73) from Category A followed in second, while a three-way tie for third at 75 featured Kim Sanggun, Rohit Philip, and John Wilcox from Category B.
Category A (Age 50–54)
Harmeet Sahney led Category A with a steady 73. Leander Paes followed in second with a 76, while Ramit Kapoor posted 77 to stay in contention.
Category B (Age 55–59)
Category B saw a three-way tie at the top, with Kim Sanggun, Rohit Philip, and John Wilcox all carding 75. Sudeep Chitlangia (76) and Kush Sama (78) rounded out the top five.
Category C (Age 60–64)
Sandeep Singh Sandhu led Category C with the day’s best round of 72. Col Kuldip Singh Sandhu followed in second with 78, while David D’Souza, Ankur Prakash, and Pushpendra Rathore were tied for third at 79.
Category D (Age 65–69)
Alok Gole led Category D with a solid 77, followed by Dhananjay Date at 78. Vincent Pinto posted 79 to take third, while Kulvin Suri (81) and Satyaprasad MK (83) completed the top five.
Category E (Age 70+)
Gangesh Khaitan led the senior-most category with an impressive 76. Vijay Kumar followed with 77, while Anil Jule (80), Ashit Luthra (81), and GS Ravi (82) rounded out the top five.
Category L (Ladies)
Paromita Mukherjee led the Ladies division with a confident 77. Pooja Ahluwalia followed in second with 86, while Jayanthi Ravi (97) and Deepa Bagla (99) completed the leaderboard.
Team Gross
Team BPGC — comprising Rohit Philip, John Wilcox, Shriraj Gaglani, and Harmeet Sahney — led the Team Gross standings with a combined score of 223. CGC followed in second at 228, led by Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Darvesh Kumar, Kush Sama, and Col Kuldip Singh Sandhu.
Team Net
Day 1 of the Team Net leaderboard saw a tie at the top, with Team Pune and Team BPGC both posting a score of 211. Team Pune featured Vincent Pinto, Dhananjay Date, Alok Gole, and Sunil Shirole, while Team BPGC was represented by Rohit Philip, John Wilcox, Shriraj Gaglani, and Harmeet Sahney. Inarah followed in third with a score of 213, led by Anil Jule, Azad Singh Ruhail, and Bhupender Singh. Team G Noida posted 215 to take fourth, while CGC and Chennai 1 were tied for fifth at 217.
Individual Net (Handicap 0–9)
Seven players shared the lead with net scores of 70: Ramit Kapoor, Kim Sanggun, Rohit Philip, John Wilcox, Alok Gole, Dhananjay Date, and Vijay Kumar. Harmeet Sahney and Vincent Pinto followed closely at 71.
Individual Net (Handicap 10–18)
Ashit Luthra led the higher handicap bracket with a net 69. Anil Jule followed in second with 70, while a four-way tie for third at 71 featured K Dhananjaya Das, Bhupender Singh, Sunil Shirole, and Bandi Srihari Rao.
