A Natural Beginning, A Serious Pursuit
Introduced to golf by her father after watching her brother train in athletics, Lavanya’s entry into the sport was almost accidental, but what followed was anything but. “I started practising and realised that I am a natural. And the journey began!” she recalls.
That sense of belonging, of finding something that fits like second nature, is rare. And in Lavanya’s case, it quickly evolved into a purpose.
Built on Resilience and Quiet Strength
Behind every rising athlete is a foundation that doesn’t always make headlines. For Lavanya, that foundation is
deeply personal.
“Growing up, I have always looked up to my mom,” she says. “Her resilience and patience in tough time are something I can only dream of achieving.”
It’s a telling insight into the person behind the player. Her game may be defined by precision and composure, ned but its roots lie in emotional strength and lived experience. That same influence continues to travel with her quite literally. “She is always there for me. walking in every round of every event.”
Alongside family, her coaches have played a defining role. “They know me as a person as well as my game really well,” she explains. In a sport where mental alignment is as crucial as technical execution, that level of understanding becomes invaluable.
Learning from the Best
Like many of her generation, Lavanya draws inspiration from global icons, but her admiration is layered.
She speaks highly of Rory McIlroy, not just for his game, but for his emotional intelligence. “The way he expresses and manages his emotions is unique,” she notes. It’s an observation that reflects her own own growing awareness of the psychological side of golf.
She also looks up to Nelly Korda, a comparison that has followed her onto the course. “A lot of people say my swing resembles hers,” she adds. If true, it places her in an elite technical company.
Her recent victory on the Women’s Pro Golf Tour at DLF Golf and Country Club, achieved as an amateur, feels less like a surprise and more like a statement.
“Yes, it still feels surreal… but I am proud of myself for not giving into the pressure and sticking to my goals and plans for that event,” she says.
It’s that emphasis on process over moment that stands out. Competing and winning against some of the best professionals in the country is no small feat. Yet, Lavanya frames it not as an endpoint, but as validation. “It’s satisfying to see that I am on the right track with my game got to keep grinding!”
IGPL: Chasing a Feeling, Not Just Victories
Ask Lavanya about her most cherished memory, and she doesn’t point to a single trophy. Instead, she revisits a phase.

“There was a time when I had won 5 events in a row… I just felt unbeatable,” she says. But it’s not the dominance that lingers; it’s the mindset. “It reminds me how confident and carefree I was… that feeling of no expectations… just going out there to play a sport I love.”
It’s a rare kind of clarity to value the freedom of performance over the weight of results. And perhaps, that’s what makes her dangerous on the course.
Courses That Shape the Golfer
Every golfer has places that resonate with their game, and for Lavanya, the preferences reflect both familiarity and aspiration.
In India, her choice is clear: DLF Golf and Country Club. A demanding layout that rewards discipline, it mirrors her own playing style.
Internationally, she is drawn to Pinehurst No. 2, a course steeped in history and challenge. It’s the kind of stage that aligns with where she sees herself heading.
There’s no hesitation when Lavanya speaks about her ambitions.
“My ultimate goal is to be the No. 1 golfer in the world and to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics.”
It’s a bold vision but not an unrealistic one. Not when it’s backed by discipline, self-awareness, and a mindset that refuses to be overwhelmed by occasion.
