8 teams of six golfers each played it out at the Tollygunge Club
The Electrosteel Skills Competition 2024 that concluded on August 3 at the Tollygunge Club, was a testimony to a rigorous battle of meticulousness and expertise among 48 club members, that included young and senior golfers alike. This year the competition saw an engrossing skills competition among 8 teams, consisting of six members each.
The eager and zealous participants started gathering near the Driving Range, Tollygunge Club, even before the competition commenced. As the competition kicked off, the players buckled up with great enthusiasm for a terrific five- holes match play for the knockout rounds, where each player got the opportunity to hit three shots each for each skill area.
There were five different skill areas that the participants explored, namely:
●Chipping in the circle
●Chip through the ring
●Basket Chip
●Basket Chip Advanced
●Nearest to the hole (Putting)
Each match had one point for a win and half a point for a tie. As the match progressed, a great deal of coordination and understanding was seen between each member of the teams and the captains, who portrayed a skillful teamwork, starting from giving unique names to their teams to providing the sequence in which the teammates would play.
The stakes heightened, and each level of the game became even more challenging with the passage of time, as the competitors put up a fantastic display of skills, talent and sportsmanship. The suspense intensified as the game escalated from hole to hole, leaving the spectators completely awestruck with remarkable golfing moments.
Though all the eight teams fought vehemently with utmost passion in each stroke, only four teams qualified for the semi finals. By the time the semi finals began, it was evident that only the best four had qualified. The semi finals kept the spectators even more occupied because all eyes were on the players, who were playing exceptionally well, portraying their skills to the best of their capabilities.
At the dusk of the event, two teams, the Good Samaritans and the Birdie Boys, put up a stunning exhibition of skills, mastery and athletic integrity and qualified to the finals. The thrilling evening ended with the phenomenal victory of team ‘Birdie Boys’. Led by their captain Deep Banerjee, the Birdie Boys comprising Saugata Banerjee, Vikramjit Singh, Armaan Bhoopal, Rudraksh Banerjee, and Mayukh Ray demonstrated exceptional expertise, persistence and fortitude towards the game of golf and secured the coveted championship title.
In hot pursuit, was team Good Samaritans. Led by Nilmani Brahma, the team consisted of Khanshree Brahma, Ashish Kumar, Ravindra K. Kanoi, Vaasvi Himatsingka and Sanjib Mahato. The Good Samaritans too, displayed remarkable mastery and sportsmanship throughout the match.
The championship not only recognised and celebrated achievements, teamwork and victory, but also highlighted the enthusiasm, camaraderie and synergy among all the golf lovers who participated in this event. T served as an incredible platform for the portrayal of skills besides fostering comradeship between the members of the Tollygunge Club.
As the Electrosteel Skills Competition 2024 drew to a close, both the participants and spectators took a moment to contemplate the exhilarating moments and incredible performances that took place on the greens of the Tollygunge Club. This event served as the manifestation of the enduring passion, dedication and commitments of the golf lovers and golfers in the city of joy.
