The 20th Interschool Golf Championship 2024 commenced on October 16 at the Tollygunge Club. The inaugurating day of the prestigious event saw over 100 budding golfers from different schools nationwide, excited to put up their best performance and win trophies by representing their schools.

The first round of the 20th Inter-School Golf Championship 2024 was conducted in a Texas Scramble format. The participants are divided into six different categories:
i. Open category under 9 years
ii. Open category under 13 years
iii. Open category over 13 years
iv. Under 9 years for girls
v. Under 13 years for girls
vi. Over 13 years for girls

Lakshya Agarwal and Shaurya Vardhan Saraogi, representing Calcutta International School, from the Overall open category over 13 years, ended the first round with an impressive three under 70.
Lakshya and Shaurya Vardhan’s leading score was followed by the second-leading score by Aarav Kapoor and Krishiv Kedia from La Martiniere School for Boys. Aarav and Krishiv from the Overall over 13 category, finished the first round with one under par.

Arghya Shah and Shaurya Bhatnagar, along with Armaan Tekriwal and Prashant Agarwal, also from La Martiniere School for Boys put up a tough competition to their schoolmates, Aarav and Krishiv, and are tied at the third position in the Overall over 13 category with an even par after the end of the first round.

Meanwhile, Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal from the Over 13 girls category represented La Martiniere School for Girls, and ended the first round with one over 70. Samaira Chitlangia from Modern High School International played a solo match in the aforementioned category and ended with the second leading score of 80 at the end of the first round.

Samaira faced a tough competition from Dhanvi Patel of Modern High School for Girls. Like Samaira, Dhanvi too played solo from the Overall over 13 girls category and managed to score an 89 at the end of the first round.

Aranyak Chakraborty and Ujaan Chakraborty from the Under 13 overall category represented the Future Foundation School. Together, they ended the first round with one over par 71. Aranyak and Ujaan’s leading score faced a tough competition from Krishiv Rungta and Aryaveer Agrawal from the Under 13 overall category. Krishiv Rungta and Aryaveer represented La Martiniere School for Boys and ended the first round with a 74. Meanwhile, Ayaan Mimani and Hrian Khem from the aforementioned school scored a 77, and went on to secure the third leading position after the first round.

Nahida Parvin from Under 13 girls category represented Delhi Public School, Megacity, ended the first round with an 81. She trailed along the round, even though she made a steady start. Julinka Roy Chowdhury from the same category represented Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, and secured the second leading score of 86.

Julinka’s score was chased down by the duo of Naina Dinodiya and Ojaswini sarkar from Modern High School for Girls, who ended the final round with a 90.

The Under 9 overall and the Under 9 girls categories played 9 holes on the inaugural round. In the Under 9 overall category, the duo of Aayansh Prasad and Jayansh Lakhotia from the La Martiniere School for Boys put up a leading score of 38, followed by the second leading score of 40 from the duo of Yugaansh Agarwal and Aativeer Jain from the same category, representing RP Goenka International School.

The partnership of Yashveer Ahuja and Priyansh Tulsyan from La Martiniere School for Boys was able to score the third leading score of 42 from the Under 9 overall category.

The duo of Advika Agaarwal and Aaira Khaitan from the RP Goenka International School created a leading score of 48 after playing nine holes from the Under 9 girls category. Anwita Sinha and Ruhi Nayar played individually from Modern High School for Girls and La Martiniere School for Girls, and created the second and the third leading scores of 53 and 65 respectively.

Great performance was also put up by Siddhanth Singhania from Army Public School, Shillong. Competing solo in the Over 13 overall category, he scored an 82 at the end of the first round. The pair of Shravya Mehrotra and Indala Rachna Satsangi from Timpany School, Visakhapatnam and Shaili Ganta from Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam too, played solo, and scored a 94 and 99 respectively when the final round ended.

The team of Aryaman Rungta and Aagam Abhishek Doshi from Loyola School, Jamshedpur, and Arihant Joshi, who played solo, representing Army Public School, Gopalpur, scored a 97 and 103 respectively from the Under 13 overall category.

All eyes are now set on the second and the ultimate round of the 20th Interschool Golf Championship that is going to be conducted on October 17. With expectations and excitement rising, all the budding golfers are looking forward to playing a favourable match, guided by favourable weather, unlike that of the rainy weather that prevailed in the first round. With eyes fixed on winning the championship, and taking the trophies on behalf of their school’s golf team, the finale is surely going to be an exciting round with incredible golfing moments.

The 20th Interschool Golf Championship is partnered by Muskaan, a pan-India initiative by the Prabha Khaitan Foundation and the Education for All Trust, aiming to promote skill development among the marginalized children and the youth of the country and make them employable.
