Bernhard Langer continues his legacy by creating a historic record of winning on the PGA Tour for 18 consecutive years. This resulted from his winning the 2024 Charles Schwab Cup Championships, that was held at the Phoenix Country Club, Arizona.
67-year-old veteran golfer Bernhard Langer has won PGA titles every year, since his debut on the PGA tours in 2007. This win has broken the record held by Arnold Palmer and Jack Niclaus who had consecutive win for 17 years. The latest victory also marks Langer’s 47th title on the PGA Champions Tour.
Langer posted a final round of five under 66, finishing in style by sinking a 30- footer birdie putt at the 18th hole. He secured a one-stroke victory over his competitors, Steven Alker and Richard Green with an overall score of 18 under par. The win was significant as Langer made his comeback after two months of suffering from an Achilles tendon injury and a major surgery that followed to repair the same.
However, the injury could not stop Langer from returning to his form even after a gap of two months. His contemporaries believe that his mental strength and positive thinking secured him the victory, and helped him create a record.
Reflecting on his victory, Langer expressed his gratitude saying, “It did just perfectly what it needed to do and disappeared. Then all hell broke loose kind of emotionally. So, it was pretty wild, yeah. It’s unbelievable, I can’t describe it. To win this big tournament after what I’ve been through and to make it 18 years in a row out here.”
