West Bengal golfer Anshul Mishra defeated his opponent, Karnataka golfer Varun Muthappa, in the final round of the IGU 123rd All India Amateur Golf Championship of India, which was held at the Chandigarh Golf Club on December 15.

A match of 36 holes was played between the two competitors in the final round.

The finale began with great excitement, with both the golfers showing the best of their golfing skills. Though Anshul took the early lead in the match by making a par on the 3rd hole to go 1-up in the match, Varun Muthappa made a brilliant birdie on the 6th hole by sinking a 30-foot putt to make the match score an all square after sixth.

Varun was 2-up after the thirteenth, and 1-up after the fifteenth. After 14 holes, Varun Muthappa held a steady lead by being 2-Up.
However, Anshul made a 1-up over Varun after the eighteenth by playing some outstanding golf to birdie holes 16, 17 and 18. After 21, Anshul was already 3-up Varun. Playing a consistent game, Anshul maintained a 3-up over after 22, and 23.

Varun Muthappa made a par on the 29th hole and 30th hole to recover to being 3 down after 30 holes. He was looking set to win hole 31 as well by making a simple birdie. Anshul Mishra however made a brilliant up & down from 100 yards away to halve the hole with Varun Muthappa.

Anshul levelled up his game with a 4-up over Varun after 24, 25, 26 and posted a 5-up after 28. After the 29, he was 4-up, and after the 31st hole, he was 3-up over his opponent. Anshul remained at a 4-up over Varun Muthappa even after the 33rd hole. This secured Anshul Mishra a promising victory in the IGU 123rd All India Amateur Golf Championship of India.

Varun Muthappa put up a challenging performance throughout, and as the runner up of the IGU 123rd All India Amateur Golf Championship, put up a very tough competition to his opponents from the opening day of the tournament.

The winner’s trophy, as per tradition, will be with Anshul Mishra for the entire year, before it is handed over to the next winner.
