Kolkata, June 23: In celebration of the International Olympic Day, which is celebrated all over the world on June 23, the Bengal Golf Association, an esteemed affiliate of the Indian Golf Union (IGU), organized a special tournament for the caddies of the golf clubs over Kolkata at the prestigious Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC). The tournament was dedicated to honouring the revival of the Olympic games in Paris of June 23, 1984, and promotes integrity and inclusivity in sports.

Over 78 caddies from the golf clubs of Kolkata participated in this unique one-round golf tournament. While over 36 players played the first nine holes, the others played the back nine holes over the day. The format in itself was a unique one, and the participation of caddies and the impressive round they played only highlighted the grassroot participation of the caddies, the unsung heroes in the game of golf.

Playing the front nine holes, Badshah Sardar and Sk. Zahir jointly won the tournament at a score of 1-over 37. Meanwhile, Tapash Sardar and Sk. Dipu finished jointly third at a score of 3-over 39, and Samir Mondal and Sushil Mondal finished tied fifth at a score of 4-over 40.

Meanwhile, Abbasuddin Molla won at a score of 1-over 37 after playing the back nine holes. Sk. Noor Hussain Sardar and Sk. Samsuddin finished tied second at a score of 2-over 38. Sher Ali Molla, Sanu Das, Sk. Sajan, Md. Sanjib, Tullu Nayak, and Raja Sardar finished tied fourth at a score of 3-over 39.

Mr. Anil BhargavaPresident of the Bengal Golf Association and Vice President of the Bengal Olympic Association, have been instrumental in conceptualizing and supporting the tournament, showcasing BGA’s vision of community upliftment through sport.

The trophy presentation ceremony was graced by distinguished guests from the Indian ArmyLt. General R.C. Tiwari, Army Commander, along with his Chief of Staff, Lt. General Mohit Malhotra, presented the trophies to the winning caddies in recognition of their talent and contribution to the sport.

Mr. Anil Bhargava, President of the Bengal Golf Association (BGA), said, “BGA organized this event to celebrate International Olympic Day and what better way to celebrate than with our caddies who are an integral part of our golf”.
