Golf is a high impact and high demanding sport in which golfers need to put in effort on almost every muscle of their bodies to play properly. In terms of mobility, control and flexibility, golf requires a lot of agility as the game needs unique physical demands on the body. A golfer needs to have perfect swings, which in turn, requires coordinated motions through the spine, hips, shoulder and wrists. This is where the role of stretching exercises come in. golfers who stick to strict stretching regime tend to play better as their muscles release the tightness and stiffness due to stretching. Therefore, a golfer’s chance of being injured while playing becomes less and his game becomes more impactful.

Stretching exercises are very beneficial for all sportspersons, especially golfers. Here’s how stretching exercises come handy for sportspersons:

  1. Shoulder Circles: Shoulder circles help in loosening shoulders and upper back. The best way to practice shoulder circles is to stand upright, with arms extended up to the sides, and then taking small circular movements in the forward direction, and then again in the backward direction.

2. Standing Trunk Rotation.

2. Standing Trunk Rotation: This is a popular exercise among golfers who want to increase flexibility in the torso, and improve power in their swings. Standing with feet at shoulder-width apart, and holding a golf club across the back of the shoulders, one needs to slowly rotate their upper body to the left and then to the right.

3. Hip Flexor Lunge Stretch

3. Hip Flexor Lunge Stretch: Hip flexor lunge stretches help in improving hip flexibility, and reduces lower back stress. One needs to kneel with right knee on the ground, with the left foot in the front, and then push their hips gently forward by keeping the chest tall.

4. Standing Side Stretch.

4. Standing Side Stretch: These stretches enhance lateral movement. Standing tall, one need to raise their arm overhead, and gently lean on the opposite side and after holding for 10-20 seconds, they need to switch their side.

5. Walking Toe Touch.

5. Walking Toe Touch: These stretches improve hamstrings and glutes with movement. The perfect way to perform this stretch is to take a walk forward and then kicking one leg up to touch the toe with the opposite hand.
