News

From July 31 to August 3, the Legends Tour will arrive at the windy beaches of Aberdeenshire for the 2025 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship. This event will feature top players including major winners, Ryder Cup veterans, and experienced champions. The location is the impressive Trump International Golf Links, a stunning coastal course surrounded by high sand dunes and the strong waves of the North Sea. With tough bunkers, narrow paths, and unpredictable winds, this course will be both beautiful and a real test of golf skills.

An Absolutely Stacked Field!

This year’s group includes some of the most well-known figures in senior golf, making for an exciting four days of competition. Major winners like José María Olazábal, Michael Campbell, Shaun Micheel, and Angel Cabrera lead an exciting list of participants. Scotland’s own Paul Lawrie, who won the Open Championship in 1999, will also be part of the event, hoping to use his local knowledge and home crowd support to his advantage. He almost won last year, coming in second place.

Defending champion Robert Coles is back with confidence after mastering the tricky course last year. Scott Hend, who is currently at the top of the Legends Tour standings, is one of the most reliable players on the tour and is considered a strong contender.

Ryder Cup veterans like Paul McGinley and rising senior stars eager for trophies will also join in. This isn’t just a nostalgic gathering; it’s a serious competition where players’ reputations and rankings are at stake.

The Course: Coastal Beauty, Ruthless Bite

Even though Trump International Golf Links is relatively new, it’s already known as one of the toughest links courses in the UK. Covering 6,897 yards, it plays as a par 72, but the yardage doesn’t tell the whole story.

Key holes like the par-4 14th, which is tight and affected by strong winds, and the par-5 10th, which offers a risky yet rewarding challenge, will likely influence the scores. A small mistake, an unexpected gust of wind, or getting stuck in a tricky bunker can make even the best players struggle.

Golfers who can balance precision and creativity will do well here. Hitting the ball accurately is crucial, and having a strong short game could be the key to winning or losing.

Pro-Am Magic and Off-Course Buzz

The championship begins with a special Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday, July 31, where well-known athletes and entertainers will join the professionals. Soccer stars like Joe Hart, Andriy Shevchenko, and Gianfranco Zola, along with celebrities like Judy Murray, Damon Hill, and Anton du Beke, will team up with pros for a fun yet competitive round that raises money for charity while giving fans a special experience.

Outside the golf course, the Championship Village will have a full schedule of live music, Q&A sessions, and fun golf activities. Fans can try to make famous putts on a moving green or relax with a drink and some music. The experience goes beyond just watching great golf, it’s a celebration of the sport.

Contenders to Watch

Paul Lawrie – He came in second place last year and is playing in his own country. Having emotional support and knowing the course well makes him a strong competitor.

José María Olazábal – He has great focus and a strong short game. He may perform well even if the winds get tough.

Angel Cabrera – He is exciting and can be unpredictable. If he gets into a good groove, he could really dominate the course.

Scott Hend – He is quietly effective and very dependable this year. He has been close to winning all season long.

Robert Coles – The champion from last year is back with a lot of confidence, ready to show that his win was not just a one-time thing.
