The last day at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire ended with an exciting finish after a tough week of senior golf. After four days of battling the windy and rugged course, Bo Van Pelt came out on top, but he had to beat Darren Fichardt in a sudden-death playoff.
Van Pelt started the day with a small lead and managed to stay calm, shooting a solid 1-under-par 71 in the final round, totalling 3-under-par for the tournament. He kept his cool under pressure, making important pars and hitting three birdies to stay in front. However, he didn’t stay at the top alone for long.
Darren Fichardt matched Van Pelt’s score of 71 and pushed hard during the final holes. His important birdie on the back nine tied the score, leading to a playoff hole on the 18th. In the end, it was all about who could handle the pressure better, and Van Pelt came through, making a birdie in the playoff while Fichardt had to settle for a par.
This win was Van Pelt’s first on the Legends Tour, and he achieved it on one of the toughest courses on the circuit. He credited his calm choices and his excellent putting for helping him succeed when it was most important.
Close behind the playoff competitors, Scott Hend shot an impressive 69, which was the lowest score of the day, finishing in third place at +1 overall. His strong finish allowed him to move up the leaderboard and secure an excellent spot in the ongoing Order of Merit standings.
Steven Gallacher, who played in front of local fans, also shot a 69 and briefly threatened for the lead. However, a bogey on the final hole left him tied for fourth. Simon Khan, Peter Baker, and Andrew Marshall also did well, finishing within a few strokes of the leaders in the top ten.
