Starting the day one shot off the lead, Spaun delivered when it mattered most, pulling clear of a star-studded chasing pack to secure a two-shot victory.

A four-way tie for second at -15 featured England’s Aaron Rai (-15), Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy (-15), Spain’s Manuel Elvira (-15) and Australia’s Adam Scott (-15). Rai carded one of the rounds of the day with a brilliant -6, while McIlroy thrilled the galleries with a strong -4 finish. Elvira, who shared the overnight lead, closed with -2, and Scott added a steady -4 to remain in contention throughout.

A group of four players finished tied for sixth at -14. New Zealand’s Ryan Fox (-14) and England’s Matt Fitzpatrick (-14) both signed for rounds of -4 and -5 respectively, while Dutchman Joost Luiten (-14) produced a stunning -8, the lowest round among the leading contenders. Italy’s Filippo Celli (-14), who started the day tied for the lead, slipped back after a closing -1.
