The second day of the 51st Walker Cup was a rollercoaster of emotions, with the United States surging ahead in the morning foursomes before Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) mounted a remarkable comeback in the afternoon singles. By the end of play, GB&I had clinched a dramatic overall victory, edging the USA 13½–12½ in front of a raucous home crowd.

 

Day Two Foursomes: USA Dominate Morning Session

The Americans came out firing in the morning, sweeping all four matches to overturn GB&I’s narrow overnight lead.

– Stout / Fang defeated Grehan / Baker 3&2.

– Leng Jr. / Akina beat Poulter / Easterbrook 4&3.

– Russell / Watts overcame Weaver / Graham 3&2.

– Jennings / Cowan sealed the sweep with a 4&3 win over Sheils Donegan / Hill.

Day Two Singles: GB&I Rally in Afternoon

The afternoon singles saw GB&I roar back with grit and precision, winning seven matches and halving two to claw back the deficit.

– Grehan beat Stout 2&1.

– Poulter defeated Fang 3&1.

– Whaley produced the most dominant win of the day, 8&7 over Jennings.

– Weaver secured a 4&3 victory against Leng Jr..

– Sheils Donegan halved with Akina.

– Baker edged Hagestad 1UP.

– Graham halved with Russell.

– Hill defeated Watts 1UP.

– Bolton beat Cowan 3&2.

– Easterbrook closed out with a 4&3 win over Gilbert.

In one of the most dramatic comebacks in Walker Cup history, GB&I edged the USA by a single point, 13½–12½, to lift the trophy at Lahinch. The home crowd erupted as the final putt dropped, sealing a famous victory for the hosts.
