After a long hiatus, the Golf Course Superintendents and Managers Association of India (GCS&MAI) made a noteworthy comeback with its highly anticipated physical seminar, held on September 20, 2025, at the Qutab Golf Course in New Delhi. Meticulous Planning and Flawless Execution

The seminar was notable not only for its content but also for its outstanding organisation. Under the leadership of the new Governing Body, GCS&MAI has devised an ambitious plan to host four seminars each year, one per quarter, to facilitate consistent knowledge exchange within the golf community.

The Q1 seminar held at the Army Golf Course (AVCC) in Noida was a masterclass in planning and hospitality. With a sophisticated round-table setup for over 50 members, the event was supported by sponsorships from member organisations that managed the financial logistics. The event included invitations for food and beverages, live streaming, Wi-Fi, floral arrangements, goody bags, lapel pins, branded T-shirts, mementoes, and certificates for the attendees. Additionally, outstation members were personally contacted and accommodated for overnight stays, ensuring full participation and fostering camaraderie.

Insightful Speakers and Knowledge Sharing

The seminar featured a remarkable lineup of speakers, each a leader in their respective fields, who delivered insightful sessions that connected technical expertise to sustainable practices. Ashok Kumar delved deep into carbon footprint auditing and valuation, explaining how golf courses can adopt green projects, register them, and even generate revenue, with biochar as a prime example.

Khitij Bhardwaj wrapped up the technical sessions with a practical talk on turf machinery maintenance, focusing on professional SOPs, cost efficiency, and extending equipment life.

Collectively, these experts enriched the seminar’s discussions, leaving attendees with actionable ideas and renewed motivation to enhance their respective golf courses.

Sponsors and Networking: Fuelling Collaboration

The success of the seminar was significantly enhanced by the involvement of its sponsors, corporate members, and supporting organisations, all of which provided essential financial support. Their contributions went beyond funding; sponsors also showcased turf machinery and equipment, allowing attendees to gain hands-on experience with the latest golf course technology.

The day’s agenda was carefully designed to balance education and networking. It began with an hour of informal interaction over tea and snacks, followed by technical sessions, and concluded with dinner and drinks. This structure ensured that sponsors, superintendents, and managers had the opportunity to exchange ideas freely and build valuable connections.

Moments of Recognition and Reflection

The event also featured several heartwarming highlights. Ashwani Khurana and Wing Commander Dhankar, the Past President, were honoured for their remarkable contributions. Col. Vinay Khanna received recognition for his consistent support of the Association, both financially and administratively. Col. Prashant Gupta, the President of AVCC, was recognised for his outstanding efforts in organising the seminar. A wreath-laying ceremony was held in memory of 2nd Lt. Arun Khetrapal, PVC, adding a solemn touch to the day.

In a celebratory spirit, four new Life Members joined the Association. Members proudly received lapel pins, logo T-shirts, and certificates for participation. The event was also live-streamed on YouTube, allowing the broader golf community to join virtually.

Looking Ahead

Building on the momentum from the Qutab Golf Course seminar, GCS&MAI is already preparing for its next quarterly seminar, scheduled for November 2025. This event will take place in Kolkata, at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club.

The upcoming seminar promises to feature new national and international speakers, innovative topics, and expanded opportunities for participants.

Through these initiatives, GCS&MAI continues to fulfil its mission of education, sustainability, and community among golf course professionals across India. Each seminar becomes a celebration of growth, collaboration, and a shared passion for the game.
