The Senior Open Championship’s Moving Day typically distinguishes the top players from the rest—and the third round at Sunningdale’s Old Course did just that. Pádraig Harrington, known for his capability to excel under pressure, delivered a perfect score of 65 to widen his lead, while Indian veteran Arjun Atwal remained competitive with a solid performance.

Harrington in Charge

After three rounds, Harrington has consistently scored 65. He’s confidently sitting at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 13-under-par (197 total) after 54 holes. His error-free round on Saturday showcased both consistency and assertiveness, with precise iron shots and dependable putting keeping the Irish player two strokes ahead.

The Pursuers Are Close Behind

Justin Leonard, reminiscent of his earlier self, also posted a 65, bringing him to 11-under, and keeping him within reach for Sunday. Additionally, Thomas Bjørn added a 67 to reach 10-under, while a quartet of players—including Steven Alker and Greg Chalmers—are tied at 8-under, still in contention if conditions become difficult.

Indian Players: Steady Advancement and Varied Outcomes

Arjun Atwal: Steady and Collected

Atwal recorded a clean 69 (-1) in Round 3, raising his cumulative score to 2-under. While not in the running for the title, the Indian star is well within the top 30 and could improve his position with a strong finish on Sunday. His performance has been robust in every aspect—hitting fairways, maintaining a sharp short game, and steering clear of major errors.

Jyoti Randhawa: Determined Attitude

Following a rough opening day, Randhawa has quietly assembled commendable rounds of 71 and 70. Currently at +11, he has displayed impressive resilience and determination to remain in contention after making the cut. Although a place on the podium isn’t likely, a strong concluding round could help him regain some self-esteem.

Jeev Milkha Singh: A Setback

Jeev faced difficulties in his third round. A score of 74 (+4) pushed him down the leaderboard to sit at +4 overall. After a hopeful Round 2, Saturday’s outcome halted his progress. He will be aiming to finish the tournament on a high note.

Final Round Ahead

Harrington holds a narrow two-shot advantage, but anything can unfold over 18 holes at Sunningdale. The pursuing competitors are seasoned professionals familiar with the pressures of Sunday. For the Indian players, the focus is on digging deep, staying sharp, and concluding the week with determination.
