The drama is cranked up at the 153rd Open Championship as Round 2 ended with a Hollywood leaderboard full of stars, surprise surges, and a Hollywood-style redemption. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler takes the lead at -10, courtesy of a sparkling 7-under round where he displayed his trademark calm under pressure and unfazed iron play.

Close on his heels is Matt Fitzpatrick, who brought fire and brimstone to bear, carding an even-tempered 5-under round to sit at -9, a single stroke behind. Fitzpatrick, the consummate technician, brought his surgical skill to bear on the windy back nine and remains in pursuit of his first Open crown.

A logjam sits at T3 with Haotong Li and Brian Harman both at -8, each putting together sharp rounds to stay in contention. Li’s form is particularly impressive considering his inconsistency earlier this year, while Harman looks like a man still carrying the swagger of his 2023 Open triumph.

Still lower down, a quintet of players sits at -5, including Tyrrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, Harris English, Rasmus Højgaard, and Cameron Gotterup—each with his own mix of power, finesse, and doggedness.

But if Round 2 had a star, it was Bryson DeChambeau.

Following a disastrous +7 in Round 1 that had everybody writing him off, DeChambeau turned it up a notch in dramatic fashion on Friday. Pummeling the course like a man on a mission, he posted a -6 to scramble back to +1 for the tournament, barely making the weekend cut.

It was a round that had it all—beastly drives, surgical wedge work, and a newfound poise that stung the critics. DeChambeau’s 31 on the back nine contained four birdies and a game-saving par save at 18 that sent the crowd into a frenzy. From almost certain defeat to a spot in Round 3—the Scientist is back in the lab and still fighting.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is at -3, looking for life but still not finding the spark that would see him light up a charge in front of a home faithful. The Northern Irishman will have to produce something very special over the weekend if he is to win the Claret Jug for the second time.

The likes of Xander Schauffele, Sam Burns, and Lee Westwood also loiter in the mix, while some of the big beasts fell short of making the cut in tragic circumstances.

With 36 holes to go, Portrush is set for mayhem, comebacks, and clutch performances. Scheffler may be in front, but as Bryson DeChambeau reminded the golf world today—anything can happen at The Open.

Leaderboard Top 5 after Round 2:

1. S. Scheffler (USA) – -10

2. M. Fitzpatrick (ENG) – -9
T3. H.T. Li (CHN) – -8
T3. B. Harman (USA) – -8
T5. C. Gotterup (USA), R. Højgaard (DEN), T. Hatton (ENG), R. MacIntyre (SCO), H. English (USA) – -5

And with that, with Portrush’s breeze ready to tempt the nerves and steel of golf’s best, the 153rd Open is set open.
